I'm not sure about granny mode, but I like the lazy loping cadence of that bi turbo v8 when in the, "E" setting. Push the button to, "S" and this thing becomes a cross between Usain Bolt and and a chili pepper. Fueled by dragons. Who've done a bit of meth. And are very, very cross with the traffic in front of me. But I digress.

From my little research your engine pumps out like an additional 60Hp in the real world even though MB list it as only having like 20 Hp more.

2012 E550 sedan
just got a MY12 E550...57Km on it...loaded with options, sticky 'all season' tires - I have had it only three weeks and I love it. Perhaps I love it too much, as I am plotting to not sell my old 540 6sp, and drive it in the winter so that the E550 can stay under the car cover for the worst months of the year.
Up here in Ontario they are straying liquid salt brine on the roads even before it snows - the mist from other cars goes everywhere and its just bad.
anyway...MB has under its control now.

Not a e550 owner but I have owned many e350's and currently own 2014 e350 and 2006 e55 and I KNOW this goes for all E classes that they are he best in their range when combing performance with luxury and the best drive

Funny thing, is there is a on ramp I take every day and the first time I took it at 0500 I took it normal speed and about put myself into the concrete wall, big difference suspension wise. It was a good warning to keep me in line from now on.

I've got 46,xxx on the odometer since new and still love this car. Admittedly, I lust for the new S, CLS550/63 and even toy with the idea of a new V8 SL ( can't believe they are offering the 400 option in the SL or CLS class) but just can't bring myself to walk away from my 550. I walk into the parking garage after work to see my beast sitting all alone and find myself admiring the edgy design lines as much today as I did in Jan 2011 when it was brand new. Sure the tech is a bit dated, the interior is a bit stale....but I love this car!
I've got the extended warranty through Jan 2017 so guess I'll hang on to it until then or give it to my son when he start driving next year. The depreciation impacts these cars so badly I can't see trading / selling it just to spend the same money on something else for him. It's a beast for sure with the V8 but he's a pretty responsible kids and we'd put the nanny software on there to make sure he remains responsible! At least that's what I keep telling myself...
