2016 E400 Wagon
Question from a potential new owner of a 2016 400 Wagon
Hi there,
My wife and me are looking for a car to replace our beloved Audi A6 Avant.
Living in North America the choice is really limited as Audi don't bring A6 anymore, BMW don't bring 5 series touring neither.
So we are looking for a 2016 e-400 ( it's a demo with super low mileage).
Come with the advantage and the driver assist package.
What will you guy said to convince me to go that way..
Something like Last car you'll ever buy.. c-mon I won't go that way.
How are those cars on the long run.. are they expensive, ton of trouble....
Thanks
Thierry

Fantastic all-around car, the 400 engine is a nice step up from the 350.
Get the IDP package, well worth the extra $2700.

* Back of 2nd row seat to where the chrome strip starts, is 46". if I measure from the back of the 2nd row seat to the rubber seal it's 50"
* Height of cargo area is 33", 30" at the hatch/door.
* Width of cargo floor is 44" wheel well to wheel well.

If I had the choice of a 2014 E350 with low mileage ( 27'000km) vs a 2016 with 5000km...
What would be the plus or minus of one vs the other one.
Price difference is big... in CAD 55k$ for one vs 75k$ for the 2016...

Assuming they have the same level of equipment, the difference would be the 2016 has longer warranty and lower miles but costs 20k more.

It's not 100% the same car.
The 2014 as the following package.. Driver Assist ( which is the passive one) and the Premium Package
The 2016 has the Advanguard package and the Intelligent drive assist.
The 2014 is sold as a used one and the 2016 is sold as a demo one.. I don't know if the terminology demo vs used change anything in Mercedes language.

Demo is used, except that the car was registered to the dealer and not to a private party.
Also, $75k for a 2016 with 5000km is a great deal.

Yupe, we got it for 2 months now and really we love it.
We missed so munch our Audi A6 Avant and were not able to find a car with the same size and quality.
The 400 is really nice, we love the way the buttons are inside the car.
One think we need to figure out is why the memory settings are not linked to the key that open the car. We never put a ton of effort to find a solution.

I don't think that the memory settings are linked to the fob. I think you need to press the memory button on the driver's door to move things for each driver.
What do you think about the E400 engine? (I do believe that has the 3.0L, twin turbo engine)? Not too many folks are saying much about this engine, but we have both an E400 and a GLK350, and the E400 is much quicker and (to me) more fun to drive.

More than enough power and the nice thing is gas mileage.
I traveled from Kelowna BC to Calgary AB and it's most of the time going up the mountains.
Did 9l/100km driving 110 to 120....
I found some "lag" but it's not from the engine it's from the economy mode that stop the engine at a red light. It's not as fast as Audi to restart. BUT it can be disabled by pressing the E button on the dash.
What we love is the space... those Wagons are so nice for that.. more room than a SUV, less gas more fun to drive...
I don't get why people don't like those cars..

Do you have the Active Driver Assist package. We have that on ours and we love it. I put it to a test the other day ( not on purpose) but I was accelerating in a lane of cars and the 400 detected that the car in front were actually decelerating, it started beeping everywhere in the dash... I slowed down. I'm pretty sure the next step would have being the car taking control and braking for me BUT that part.. not sure I want to really test it
One think that take some time to be use to is the lane departure. When it's active the car will bring you back in the lane by applying brake to the 2 opposite wheels. When you are not use to, the feeling is really weird... you think the car is slowing down and braking with no reason.. BUT ... it works and without any movement on the steering wheel the car goes back in the lane.

uploaded a few pictures from my phone but they posted too large ...not sure how do do the thumbnail stuff but got this car last night...my e 550 was a 2014 model and this is a 2016..the command set up is different but seems a bit sharper...liked the e 550 but had problems with the airmatic and it seemed to take the road imperfections poorly as if i had no shocks...happy to have the wagon as the sedan didn't have much room for carrying golf clubs...my 2014 showed my text messages when they came in and read them aloud if i wanted this newer command while it shows the text envelope doesn't seem to display them or read them aloud...I will have to study the operators manual to see if I can find the answer...
