You guys are comparing euro cars that cost 3 times as much as American car. Lets compare apples to apples here, for example VW passet vs. the Ford Taurus or the Mercedes C class vs the Cadillac CTS.

Consumer Reports new car reliability reports are out. Surveys of over 740,000 vehicles.
This is based on last one to three years of vehicles depending on when last model change occured.
MB as a brand came in 21 (up from 24) last year.
Buick came in 7 and their worst model ties with "E" Class and is slightly below MB's best (M class).
Some rankings:Cadillac-25; Lexus-1; Toyota-2; Audi-3 (up from 5); Hyundai-9; Kia-6; Chevy-20, Porsche-14..
Chevy's worst model is the Corvette.; MB's worst is GL Class; CLA, S and C also did poorly.
Incidentally, the Hyundai Genesis and Hyundai Genesis Coupe are two very different vehicles. Not sure why Hyundai uses similar names for them.
Fiat-Chrysler pretty much owns the bottom.
MB had two vehicles to make the 20 Least Reliable list: GL Class and C Class.
Tesla is not ranked because it did not meet the minimum reporting standards for brands of so many responses for at least two models. I think Tesla only has one model at present.
However, in the individual vehicle rankings Tesla came in last for Hybrid/Electric vehicles.

Posers in a auto factory? Really? Gentleman, the automotive business this is a global one. Everybody copies what other manufacturers excels at. Germans have being copying the Japanese Just-in-Time (JIT) parts deliveries methods for years. As far as the Italians, I am not sure anybody would want to copy them. They make a few nice exotic cars but those factories can never produce in high volume efficiently.

Why are you paying $300 for a battery with a star on it? That's as bad as my wife and purses.

Does the E class use a AGM battery? And do you need to register the new battery with the car's computer?

Not my intention

Had called Roadside Assistance and tech diagnosed dead battery as the problem and had one in the van. He came from the dealership.
Probably could have told him just to jump start it, but then I would be searching for a battery.
Wasn't my intention to overpay for a battery and actually thought at 48 months and one week, MBUSA would have given some type of credit. If it had died two weeks before, MBUSA would have replaced it at no cost.
The Best or Nothing.

Wait, the $300 also got you off he side of the road? I mean, I'd be thinking ouch for the $300, but not complaining overall, as you did get rescued from being stranded.

In NYC, only the state licensed tow truck is even allowed on the parkway. You'd have paid $300 just to get it on the truck, to the next exit, and dropped in the nearest parking lot. And STILL have to deal with getting it running, home and ultimately repaired.

At which point $300 just to buy the battery... that for any other car would be $75...is obscene.

Actually it was in my garage and would not start. Thought it might be battery, but not real sure and it is under extended warranty (no battery coverage though).
Not sure, but a comparable replacement battery would probably have been more than $75, but no where near $300.

Yes, and Hell no!
Pull the old beast out and stick the new one in. No drama whatsoever.

$213 online for a AGM battery, I think $300 is a bargain considering. BMW dealers use to charge $500 for a battery and programming.

3 bills for an MBUSA battery on the E-class is reasonable...it is a huge freaking battery. There is no way a cheapo Sears $75 special has nearly as many cold cranking amps (CCA).

Not as good power-wise as the yellow/red top Optimas I have in the older cars, but pretty close.

Might have to "reprogram" the windows / pano by holding down the switch in each direction, not sure. Had to in the w211.

Yeah I stand corrected. Part of the price is AGM construction. $200 from normal sources it would appear. The other $100 is the MB dealer charge.
