always. ive said this before, unless you own the dealership or a next of kin. they will lie to you. at the end of the day, its how much money they can get from you more so than how they can help you. that being said, a lil more info on what happened to your engine would be nice.
sorry to hear about it and hope you get your car back on the road as soon as possible.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I wouldn't say they are lying to you. They are quoting MB retail price for a new engine + install which is probably close to that number. Isn't it still under warranty?
If it is under warranty I'd let the dealer fix it and trade it immediately. If not then I'd look for cheaper ways to fix it (rebuilding, scrap yard engine) and then trade it immediately (or trade it as-is in it's broken state- I traded a totaled Jetta for my first Benz, and they should be accomidating since their car failed you).

An M156 would fit for sure.

I would think a engine and transmission is cover under factory warranty especially for a 2013 model unless you intentionally set your engine on fire.
For some reason your not cover under warranty, you can get about the same year AMG E63 engine for about half of that money and have a Mercedes certify shop install it for you and you still have plenty of money left over for a full tune to the new engine.
Good luck.

Think of the money you are saving though by living in your car and not having to buy a home. Dealer is lying; it will be more like $35,000.

Dealer isn't lying. The costs to assemble a car from parts on an assembly line is one thing. The costs to remove an engine, dispose of it, get a new engine, install it, etc. is tremendously more. Not to mention, you have a high tech diesel engine.
The key issue here is 120,000 miles on a two year old car. No way in the world is that "mint condition." Mint would be 10,000 miles.
Sorry for your troubles, but it happens.

What specifically "blew" on the engine? Engines are HIGHLY serviceable. I mean to totally wreck the entire engine is rare.
I am trying to think of a few scenario like timing belt catastrophe, hydrolock, ceasing from absolutely no oil for a while. How did this happen?
And I am TRULY sorry to hear something like this happen to you.

For future reference - with the kind of miles you drive, I would have gotten the 100000 ELW and traded/sold the car at 100,000 miles.
But as reasonator said- it would help to know exactly what 'blew' as its difficult to picture a scenario that would destroy the block. Even $10,000 buys a LOT of engine repair (new heads or fuel system or whatever). But without knowing what specifically is wrong with your engine, I don't think anyone here is going to be able to offer you any actionable advice.

You're better off getting some local goon to steal the car and total it the rest of the way and have your insurance take care of it.
Jk really not but wink wink

Besides, gap insurance just covers the difference between what a car is worth and what you still owe on it. (for things that ARE covered by insurance such as collision)

It's amazing all that people have to say considering how few details the op actually posted
All info given to him is great advice nonetheless
Wish him luck but I think he's run out for now
I don't think this engine was ideally built to be driven 60,000 miles a year but maybe an expert can chime in
My advice is report it stolen and gets some guys to destroy it and put it on cinderblocks in a sketchy part of town

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I thought MB diesels were supposed to be workhorses. 120K in 2 years shouldn't be much different than 120K in 10 years, as long as it is maintained. In fact, these should be easier highway miles. Heck, cheap chevys will do 120K if maintained properly. I thought a well built diesel should do much better than a regular gas engine.

There's got to be more to the story than the engine just craps out at 120K miles. If you've been maintaining it properly, regular oil changes and follow the Mercedes guidelines and the engine failed, then I would recommend you getting them and MBUSA to consider a Goodwill. Especially if you've been maintaining that all at the same dealership and have done what they've recommended as regular and faithful servicing.
I don't believe that all dealership are out to get your money at least from my experience with Mercedes Benz for the past 15 plus years. However, I do believe that they are expensive -- but sometimes you do get what you pay for. I've gotten great and bad experiences with dealership and independent so it's not necessarily where you're getting your car service it's the people that's running the shop -- so to me the key is have a good sense of the people that you're working with whether it's at a dealership or independent shop. Also worth noting: the dealerships are franchised so they have MBUSA over looking them so if there's a pattern of complaints they would be rectify (hopefully) by MBUSA. While the independent shops can do anything they want as there's not a check and balance there, unless of course they're doing some illegal stuff then you have the law to help you.
Good luck and sorry to hear about the engine.

Hopefully the op can chime in here soon to fill everyone in on the entire situation. But looking at the mileage that was put on the car and the year of the vehicle I would have never bought the car unless it was a CPO unlimited mileage warranty. In that case he could have put a million miles on it in that time and would be completely covered. I suppose we don't know all the facts so I could have misspoken. Hopefully Benz does him a solid and takes care of this without hassle. Good luck!!

I almost fell off my chair when I read this. Wow that is an insane amount of miles. Sorry to hear what has happened to you. Would gap insurance cover the difference since this is technically a total lost?

acquire used engine from auto recyclers, replace current engine, rebuild current engine on your time, sell current engine once it is fixed and current car, get newer CPO'ed car wit extended warranty.
