FS 2012 E550 With CPO Warranty

I purchased this E550 about 2 years ago as a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz from Frank Fletcher Imports in Joplin, MO. I am the second owner.

Its in excellent shape and very clean with 61,000 miles. I had one speaker replaced under warranty, but haven't had to have any warranty work done other than that.

I had a deer jump into the Windshield the summer of 2014. I had the windshield replaced and some minor scratches on the hood repaired at Mercedes Benz of NorthWest Arkansas. They warranty their repair work for life. I've also had them service the vehicle.

This car has been stock since it was new, I did change the grille and hood emblem. I still have the original parts that could be reinstalled. Other than that no modifications have ever been made to it.

The original warranty still has about 40,000 miles and about 1 year left. I believe the warranty extends until Nov or Dec of 2016. I can find out the exact date. I have the form to transfer the warranty to the new owner.

The vehicle has about every option offered in the E550.

The options it has are:
Sport Package
Premium 2 Package
Command Hard Drive Navigation
Harmon Kardon Sound System
Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
Power Rear Sunshade
Rearview Camera
Adaptive High Beam and Bi-xenon Headlamps
Power Trunk Closer
Keyless-Go
Driver Assistance Package
Distronic Plus Adaptive Cruise Control with Presafe Braking
Active Blind Spot and Active Lane Keeping Assist
Rear Trunk Spoiler
Heated Steering Wheel
Burl Walnut Trim

Asking $33,900

I am located in Northern Arkansas

Have you sold the car already? If so, did you get the amount you wanted or was it markedly lower?

I'm interested in knowing if these cars sell well when they're sold by a private seller vs. a dealership...

Do people buy these cars from private sellers?

Nice pics, I'm glad to see what my car will look like with the sport grille. I intend to get the same one.

I still have it, but have not sold it. I did get an offer of $30,000 for it earlier this week.

I think the fact that it still has the CPO warranty keeps the value up.

Just as reference...

I should buy a non CPO 2013 Mercedes-Benz E550 4Matic by Thursday (if all goes well).

I would be buying for the residual price at end of lease (39,837 $ CAD).

That's about 30,000 USD at today's exchange rate.

Again with no CPO nor extended warranty (has manufacturer's warranty).

My plan is to sell it and pickup an E63. There was an E63 at a dealer somewhat close to me, they offered me close to $30,000 trade in for the E550.

$30k trade plus the tax advantages is a great offer, you should take it if you really want that AMG, and they are at a reasonable price on it. Selling a used car privately at $30K+ would be difficult for sure.

You should call MB and see how much if any you can get back on the CPO. They will sometimes refund the unused part of it back to you. So with the trade in, tax discount and the CPO refund, it might not get any better than at the dealer. Probably why many of them end up getting traded in. Although to be sure, you have to make sure that you negotiate the price of the car before the trade in otherwise they're just marking up your trade in to give you a smaller discount on the purchase.

I've never heard of any part of a CPO cost being refunded. The CPO stays with the car for life.

I believe you are thinking of an extended warranty where the unused portion will be refunded.

Right I must have been thinking of the extended warranty. The CPO expires if it gets traded into a dealer, it's only transferable if sold to a private party.

Kinda-sorta. The CPO doesn't transfer if traded to a dealer but it will always be an ex-CPO car.

It's pretty worthless though. My car has a CPO sticker on it, but because I got it from a non MB dealer, no CPO.

Yeah, most other companies transfer CPO status regardless of where the car is sold.

MB will probably justify not refunding the extended warranty balance with some sort of excuse like "it's an insurance, when do insurance companies refund customers? "

It's been mentioned in other threads that people got refunds on their warranties, just didn't realize it was on an extended warranty and not on CPO.

MB will refund the unused portion of the extended warranty - just like an insurance company will refund your insurance if you cancel.

However, you must remember that the extended warranty doesn't start at the end of the normal warranty but starts on the day you buy it. While there often is some sort of grace period, after that any refund will be prorated.
