Bone stock, 66K miles on the engine. Good to know it still lives up to original C&D review test specs. About 80 degrees in the thick humid air of FL.

Woah you hit the 12second mark in the 1/4 mile bone stock E550? That is an awesome numbers you put down. I thought we can do low 13's stock.

This was to prove my point that if you want a faster car, just buy a car that was designed to be faster, don't blow a bunch of money on trying to add stuff later and make it something that it was not engineered to be. He paid 10K more for his car (new) than I paid for mine (used), has put thousands into parts for it, and IMO it feels and sounds like total crap when I ride in it. Granted... he would KILL me on a road course, but how many people really have access to such a track? We're all just doing occasional "drags" from red lights or freeway ramps in normal driving.
I have no intention of tuning the E550 right now, I'd rather just keep it stock with all the associated reliability and comfort factors. It's already more speed than I can use anywhere other than the drag strip.

I couldn't agree more, start with a good engine, transmission and chassis. Subrau's chassis is not nearly as stiff as Mercedes' and why spend money modifying light duty engines and transmission, all they are doing is dressing it up. There is a reason why Subaru never competed in a 24 hours of le mans race, never mine winning one.

I have the mindset of just making the car my own by putting a little of me into it. The 550 is an awesome platform that has sooo much potential. I'm so happy with this car and have some decent not too crazy plans for it. Basically you can have 63 power without the high cost of maintenance for the AMG

I hear you bud. I on the other hand can't keep a car stock if my life depended on it LOL. I'm always changing wheels or suspension or lights or tunes or exhaust. Granted, I have done so mostly with german cars only so it can be a pretty expensive hobby.

I would consider a tune for this turbo engine, if it were reversible on command, like the Cobb tuners for Subaru, BMW, Ford, etc. You can just plug in a re-map in seconds. I would not want the aggressive tune characteristics 100% of the time, or when I need to loan the car to my wife.

I also like to do some cosmetic customization, but learned my lessons the hard way on "modding" the mechanical aspects of vehicles. You modify one thing, and it breaks something else that was not designed to take the increased stresses. Cars are designed as a complete system by teams of highly experienced engineers to standards of reliability. I'm not an engineer, and I have no business adding or changing something that's going to screw up their intended design or ruin reliability causing costly premature failures.

I would tend to agree. However, it's hard to know what difference it makes in real world driving. I don't think I've ever gone 1/4 miles flat out anyway.
