2016 E 250 Bluetec - One Month Ownership - Review
I have owned the 2016 E 250 Bluetec for exactly one month now with 2100 miles driven.
Exterior: Selenite Grey Interior: Crystal Grey / Black MB-Tex / Black Ash Wood trim
Features:
- Panaorama Sunroof
- Heated Seats
- Rear Deck Spoiler / Comfort Box
- ATTENTION ASSIST
- COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS PRE-SAFE
- Eagle View 360 Camera System
P01 Premium 1 Package: COMMAND System Navigation, Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 Surround Sound System, Power Folding Mirrors, Power Sunshade
321 Sport Package - Lowered Sport Suspension, Sport Bodystyling
389 KEYLESS-GO Package
993 Lane Tracking Package: Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist
996 Parking Assist Package: PARKTRONIC w/Active Parking Assist, Surround View System
---
First Imperssions: After a bit over 2000 miles driven, i have to say that i highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who is in the market for a diesel vehicle. The E 250 with the Sport Package handles expertly and imperfections in the road are incredibly well dampened. My vehicle is equipped with 245/45/17 tires which soaks up pot holes and cracks. My only complaint would be the OEM tires, which are Bridgestone Turanza EL-400. The tires are a bit harsh and noisy but i will be replacing them soon with Continentals or Bridgestone Driveguards. I need to stick with Run Flats because i do not have a spare due to the DEF tank.
The 2.1L turbo diesel engine which delivers 195 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque is more than adequate for everyday use. The torque kicks in around 1600 RPM which is great for going up steep inclinations, the engine does not down shift at all, where as a regular 4 cylinder engine or even a 6 cycliner would have to downshift to 4th or 5th gear depending on the steepness of the climb raising the RPMs well over 2000. This obviously is great for fuel economy, but the best part is how quiet and relaxed the engine is. There is no diesel noise at all in the cabin. Just as quiet as a E 350.
The fuel economy is obviously one of the perks of owning a diesel vehicle, this being my first one. The E 250 is a highway machine, i have taken a few short trips to Vegas and Santa Barbara, traveling about 73 - 77 mph the whole trip, i was able to get 38.4 mpg. On a city and highway mixed driving in LA, 31-33 mpg is more realistic. Also diesel fuel is at times almost $1.00 cheaper than 91 octane at certain stations here in Los Angeles, another bonus. Currently, it is around $.50 less per gallon.
Overall thumbs up for the E 250, i am definitely sold on the brand and the diesel engine. I am currently leasing but will switch to buy unless a more efficient diesel engine comes out.
Thanks for reading

You'll most likely get improved fuel mileage as time goes by. You won't need any more power either unless you are racing. I really do believe you have made a good choice.

You won't believe it but I have sometimes got 50 miles per gallon on freeway driving with my wife on board and with air conditioner on and off. It is not I only who reported similar story.

Congrats on a great car.
I own a 2011 E-350 Bluetec, currently with 92,000 miles. In fact, I am sitting at New Country Mercedes having the brakes done. 90K out of brakes ain't too bad!
My car averages about 31mpg, on the highway, if I put it there and leave it there, it'll deliver about 37mpg. But mine is the 6 cal, so a lot more torque than yours.
Love my car, going to run it, God willing, to 200,000 miles.

Wow, 90,000 miles on a set of brake pads is quite amazing, I have never went over 40k miles without the front pads giving out. But then again, i have never owned an E Class.

I got a 14 E250 with just over 60K miles on it, in just over 2 years of owning it.
Last Sunday, a mountainous drive up to 10.7k' and back on the interstate running 80-85 with air on most of the way (100o in SLC in the afternoon on the interstate), got 47.1 per car computer. Guessing since I haven't fill it back up yet, more like a true 44-45mpg.
My overall since the day I drove it off the lot, figuring via math, around 41mpg total.
Once I got over 30K miles, the mileage on mine went up.

MBWorld Fanatic!
How much is the dealer charging for the brake job? Is it just front or front and back?
Thanks

Im really looking forward to the increased MPG as the engine breaks in.

A few tank refills in the upper 700's, but I tend to refill early and not to be too low on the gallons left in the tank.
5/29/2016 I ran 756 miles, using 16.1gal, 46.957MPG via math mileage/47.1 Dash MPG. 59,723 miles on the E for that refill.

All these great stats really confirm that i made a good choice for the application that the vehicle is used for. As someone said above, if your are not racing, you really do not need more power than this for commuting. Really does not feel like a 4 cylinder.

Encouraging news, as my wife is also eyeing the E250 as a replacement for her Passat TDI.
Passat has been good to her, but the buyback offer may be too good to pass up. She averages 20k miles year.
