E550 exhaust upgrade....yes I've searched!
I've exhaustively (pun intended
) searched the forums to figure out the best way to enable a better sound from an E550, and in my mind the following 3 options are best. I have a 2011 and my goal is to make it sound as much like an AMG as possible, throaty, growly, burbly but also streetable as this is my daily driver that I put 35k miles per year on.I'd like to know what the approximate costs pros/cons are to each...many thanks in advance:
1. Find some E63/C63 mufflers and swap out the stockers. These mufflers are hard to find and this requires some welding.
2. Replace the stock mufflers with a straight pipe or J pipe. This seems like it may be too loud but an exhaust shop should be able to do this easily
3. Purchase magnaflow mufflers and have a shop install them. I've only seen one reference to this on the forums...it's intriguing but I would like more information
4. Buy a full custom exhaust, but these are around $3k...ot of budget.
Is my assessment correct? Any edits or info would be great, thanks!

I have a 2012 E550 which has a different motor. However, I did option #3 and also removed my resonators and replaced with straight pipe. Cost me $600 for everything installed. Unfortunately, I haven't hear my setup on your engine as Im sure its going to sound very different since the turbos change exhaust sounds drastically.
but you can just cut out mufflers and it will give you a pretty good sound (what i did to mine) with X pipe its a bit louder but , not for my liking , so i had shop to weld back to stock there (i believe H pipe its called)
But there are some more ppl on this forum that have done it with different variations , i just hope they see this and can help you out
thank youTrending Topics

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
- straight pipe with resonator delete: too much raspy + economy drop in the monitor for no reason (from 12.4L/100KM to 18L/100KM, and I drove it for 3000km)
- x pipe with resonator delete: zero difference on sound
- straight pipe with 2nd cat delete: error code
- muffler delete with resonator on: too much for E class
- FINAL SOLUTION: magnaflow muffler (to increase the quality of sound and make it deep and under control) + keep the big resonator to get rid of the raspy (which is a lot in NA car) + remove the two small ones (to increase the poping sound)
