2016 COMAND NTG 5s1 (5.1) RETROFIT from NGT4
#102
We have activated the option codes in Vedoc, because of that new updates where available which where not available before: FW update, carplay update, mirrorlink update and google update. We have the updates and they are now uploading into the unit
VERY VERY excited, nearly there, IF this completes as expected, it's the first Carplay enabled retrofit I think?
Also got a WIFI hotspot in the car now
And because the unit was added to the VIN we could buy official media and activation pin

It's not really my work, I did my homework, bought a unit, made a shoppinglist and went to Mbenznl,
Steve did all the hard work.
It's not cheap, for a factory quality retrofit you'll need:
Comand NTG5*1 unit that fits your car
Matching screen
Interface cable
Media upgradekit
Usb cable / usb hub
wlan antenna
Comand maps
comand navi activation pin
New multicontroller for middle console
Cooling fans for in dash
Depending on how much you pay for the comand unit itself the above additional parts will set you back €1k ordering from a dealer.
Then the unit itself will typically cost around €3k new, but you might find a 2nd hand.
So that's roughly 4k€ on hardware, maps and pin.
Then you will need to find someone with access to vediamo and XENTRY.
The unit will need to be coded online to be added to your VIN in VEDOC
this is critical to trigger software updates that enable carplay / mirrorlink. No online coding > no updates > no carplay!!
I had mbenznl do mine, he enabled all options that my car supported and did hide all the menu's that don't work in my car (nearly everything works, only the KW/NW meter doesn't run, we even tried new engine FW, but there is just no signal feed)
Regarding hours, again it's not cheap, it's a multiple day job, fitting, but also coding, waiting, updating FW, finding out car specific pitfalls etc etc.
Long story short, you will need deep pockets, where you can save if you source efficiently, if you buy a 2nd units and settle with a hacked pin you can easily acquire all hardware for half. But you won't have a FACTORY type install with all options appearing on your datacard. If a dealer now searches on my VIN, they'll see that I have a COMAND NTG5*1 and V6 maps, Wlan etc.
Long story short, DON't try this a home, without access to vediamo, for a factory type install you need vediamo, xentry dev license and write access to vedoc system. Find a capable installer, highly recommend mbenznl

This looks great! I'm considering purchasing a 2010 W212, and to see that some users have newer comand working is exactly what I was looking for. I don't mind spending some to get the newer electronics, while saving when buying an older car.

I see, unfortunately I live in London, I don't think there is anyone who can help me with retrofitting the whole comand ntg5. I can only do it myself. Do you know where can I find those interior cables connecting the head unit and the screen?
