A Puzzling E-Mail From My Dealer
Unless I'm reading it wrong (distinctly possible) the dealer from which I bought my Bluetec has gotten a hold of a couple of dozen *new* 2015 models. Some C-Class,E-Class and S-Class among others. They're advertising pretty decent discounts from sticker.
My two questions are 1) what's the likelihood that I'm reading it correctly...that they *are* new and *are* 2015? And 2) If they are new what kind of discount from sticker,percentage-wise,might I get away with demanding?
TIA!

To me it is not new if the vehicle has over 100 miles on it. More than likely most of those advertised vehicles are dealer demos or test drive cars which get abused. But if you are leasing who cares about that, if you are buying it is a different story.

$12K off a $68K MSRP for a 2 year old car that is the old body style does not seem like a good deal.
Maybe they would negotiate a better discount than what they state online.

it's not unusual that cars sit on dealer lot for extended period of time, especially luxury car, I can easily find brand new 2015 or even 2014 Porsche at dealerships in my area,
last year I know there're a few new LF-A in the country, and they stop making it since 2012.... go figure.

Just leftovers.......something with them that turns people off. Could be exterior/interior colors (or combo) of both, missing key options, expensive options no one wants to pay for, etc.

I got the same email. It is possible that they got some demos from an MB auction, but I am betting it is simply a Herb Chambers'ism. They are really tight when it comes to money and I'll wager that they simply didn't sell them because they wanted top dollar. Factory demos (like press or MBUSA exec cars) are not titled so technically they are new, but I doubt that they got untitled '15s at an mb dealer only auction. They are usually more current than that.
I remember a couple years back end of year E-class discounts. I brought a friend in to look at what they had left (they had a LOT) and was actually quoted $6,500 off even after I described what the rest of the country was selling them at. They wouldn't budge. I went into the parking lot, cold called a dealer a few miles away and asked if they would do $12k off sticker on similar cars and in less than two minutes got confirmation (I believe it was 12, but it could have been 11 or 13 as it was a few years ago). I went back inside and politely told them what I just got from their local competition and walked. We went to the other dealer the next day and confirmed the deal but she ended up buying a CPO E550 instead. Just my experience with them in new sales, you can get decent prices on pre-owned but only after they have been there a while. Service has been good.
As someone mentioned earlier, the discounts advertised aren't even that good for cars that "old". OTOH, they are still in business and apparently doing well so they must be selling stuff.

I see nothing stating the vehicles are new nor how many miles are on them. I received $10,600 discount from MSRP on a new 2016 E350 at the beginning of July.

Regarding the price you paid for your 16 E350. I simply believe that Herb Chambers doesn't do that. Well more to the point my experience has shown that they wouldn't do that for me. Frankly I don't see how they can stay in business, but they've been around forever and they have three separate Mercedes dealerships in the area. They have to be doing something right. I just can't figure out what it is.

The link just describes the cars. The original email mentioned in I believe a couple of places that these are new cars.
