2014 E250 - tires (quiet and smooth)

I have an E250 bluetec (2014). Needs new tires.

245/45 R17

I'm looking for comfort and quiet.

Recommendations?

I don't want the run flats.

Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus is ranked #1 on Tirerack.com for ride quality and noise.

I also have a 2014 E250 BT. I did a lot of research trying to find the quietest tire and decided to go with Kumho Solus TA71's. My sizes are a bit different since I also switched to staggered 18" AMG wheels, so I went with 225/45R18's on the front and 245/40R18's on the back. These are not very "sporty" tires but I am very pleased how quiet they are. I went with the "unusually" narrow tire on the front since narrower tire usually has less road noise. I'm so pleased with these tires that I can't wait to put these on my wife's VW CC when her tires wear out. If you look at Kumho's website, it is apparent that the TA71's were designed for low noise and comfort (noise being rated at 10/10 on their own rating scale).

I have gone through many tires and heavy research on this topic, my #1 recommendation would be Comtinental DWS 06.

If you read the forum a bit you will find me promoting Nokian zLine tires. These are the quietest and by far the best wet traction tires I know. Had them in both 265/35-18 245/40-18 size and 245/45-17 on my E550.

For some unfortunate events I had to get tires fast and I got Michelin MXM Primacy tires that I currently have on. These are very comfortable tires and almost as quiet as the Nokian zLine but wet traction is not even close to Nokian zLine.

But these are a comfortable ride with twice the price compared to nokian, which will again be by next tire when these wear out.

Wet traction living in south is #1 property for me.

Second the motion for the Conti DW or DWS. Tire rack calls the former "summer performance tires" The "S" in DWS is for snow. So if you don't have to deal with any of that cold white stuff, the DW ("Dry" and "Wet" performance) will yield you better dry grip/handling. Everything is a compromise, to be sure. These are great tires that are comfortable and grippy, IMHO. Can't speak to their longevity as I have only put maybe 5K+ miles on, but so far very happy with the purchase.

If I were going to replace the tires on our 2014 E250, I would go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3.

Actually the A/S 3 are now the A/S 3 Plus. Supposed to be 28% better in the snow whatever that means. They're considered a little bit better than the Conti DWS.

I live in Los Angeles, obviously we never get snow but i always buy All Season tires, they are much softer in my opinion. Summer tires become rock hard at night time when the temperature dips a bit. All season tires nice and smooth day or night, summer or winter.

If you want a comfortable and quiet tire, go with a grand touring tire, something like a Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus.

I don't recommend the Conti DWS due to poor tread life. Had my car aligned, installed DWS on rear, watched tire pressure religiously, and they wore out in 15k miles. Check the user reviews at Tire Rack and you will see quite a few complaints about tread life

Have these on my E350 and love them. Very quiet, comfortable and reasonably sticky.

2 months ago, I got a set Michelin Pilot AS3 from Tire Racks (really good price compare with my local COSTCO + $70 rebate) for my 2012 E350. Quiet, smooth & comfort ride. A lot better than the Continental DS I had before the Michelin. Now I can not take the key away from my wife, I have to drive the ML most of the time. Go with Michelin you will not regret. A little more $, but get what you pay for.

Any thoughts on the Bridgestone Drive Guard tires? My 2015 E250 with stock 17" wheels needs some new tires. Looking at those, Michelin Pilot Sport 3, or Bridgestone RE050. I want to keep run flats on the car given no spare and a 13 month old daughter

I had a W211 with Michelin MXM's that car was far quieter and smoother ride than my current W212 luxury with Continentals.

Received a 2016 MB rental from the dealership equipped with these tires. Ride quality and road noise are great on these but driving in wet weather / especially cold wet weather - these tires lose grip faster than a finalist on Ninja Warrior.

I agree with you on the grand touring tire. I don't think OP is looking for handling or sport performance. His priorities are quiet and comfort. DWS and pilot A/S 3 are in the ultra high performance category where as grand touring is for more comfort and less noise. Don't know much about grand touring tire recommendations as I have never bought a set tho hehe
