2014 E250 - tires (quiet and smooth)
I have an E250 bluetec (2014). Needs new tires.
245/45 R17
I'm looking for comfort and quiet.
Recommendations?
I don't want the run flats.

I also have a 2014 E250 BT. I did a lot of research trying to find the quietest tire and decided to go with Kumho Solus TA71's. My sizes are a bit different since I also switched to staggered 18" AMG wheels, so I went with 225/45R18's on the front and 245/40R18's on the back. These are not very "sporty" tires but I am very pleased how quiet they are. I went with the "unusually" narrow tire on the front since narrower tire usually has less road noise. I'm so pleased with these tires that I can't wait to put these on my wife's VW CC when her tires wear out. If you look at Kumho's website, it is apparent that the TA71's were designed for low noise and comfort (noise being rated at 10/10 on their own rating scale).

If you read the forum a bit you will find me promoting Nokian zLine tires. These are the quietest and by far the best wet traction tires I know. Had them in both 265/35-18 245/40-18 size and 245/45-17 on my E550.
For some unfortunate events I had to get tires fast and I got Michelin MXM Primacy tires that I currently have on. These are very comfortable tires and almost as quiet as the Nokian zLine but wet traction is not even close to Nokian zLine.
But these are a comfortable ride with twice the price compared to nokian, which will again be by next tire when these wear out.
Wet traction living in south is #1 property for me.

Second the motion for the Conti DW or DWS. Tire rack calls the former "summer performance tires" The "S" in DWS is for snow. So if you don't have to deal with any of that cold white stuff, the DW ("Dry" and "Wet" performance) will yield you better dry grip/handling. Everything is a compromise, to be sure. These are great tires that are comfortable and grippy, IMHO. Can't speak to their longevity as I have only put maybe 5K+ miles on, but so far very happy with the purchase.

If you want a comfortable and quiet tire, go with a grand touring tire, something like a Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus.

I don't recommend the Conti DWS due to poor tread life. Had my car aligned, installed DWS on rear, watched tire pressure religiously, and they wore out in 15k miles. Check the user reviews at Tire Rack and you will see quite a few complaints about tread life

2 months ago, I got a set Michelin Pilot AS3 from Tire Racks (really good price compare with my local COSTCO + $70 rebate) for my 2012 E350. Quiet, smooth & comfort ride. A lot better than the Continental DS I had before the Michelin. Now I can not take the key away from my wife, I have to drive the ML most of the time. Go with Michelin you will not regret. A little more $, but get what you pay for.

Any thoughts on the Bridgestone Drive Guard tires? My 2015 E250 with stock 17" wheels needs some new tires. Looking at those, Michelin Pilot Sport 3, or Bridgestone RE050. I want to keep run flats on the car given no spare and a 13 month old daughter

Received a 2016 MB rental from the dealership equipped with these tires. Ride quality and road noise are great on these but driving in wet weather / especially cold wet weather - these tires lose grip faster than a finalist on Ninja Warrior.
