Hesitant starting

My '11 E550 has been experiencing stalling while starting. When I hit the push button it takes a few, long seconds for the vehicle to start. My indy mechanic said it probably is my battery, but my battery is less than 2 yrs old from MB. The car isn't driven daily, but is kept on at tender when not in use for longer than 2 or 3 days. I thought the starter may be going, but my mechanic said the starter on these cars is pretty solid. Has anyone experienced this before? My vehicle is headed to the dealer next week to see if they can find anything.

Dead battery in the key fob? It could be having trouble communicating to the computer to tell it to start. Kinda like having to hold the garage door opener (the fob kind) button a few seconds for it to register with the garage sensor. Just an idea of something to check for.

I changed the battery in both key fobs less than a yr ago. When the batteries were going dead, a message was displayed on the dash to replace the battery in the fob.

I would still get the battery bench testing. Easy thing to rule out before you look at other potential causes.

I also have a 2011 E550. I had my battery replaced and it did not solve anything. I then had the starter replaced (under warranty) and it's all good now.

I wouldn't bet my life on the starter but I would bet $1000 that's your problem.

My dash didn't display that message when my fob's battery was running out of juice? Switched out for a new one and that did the trick.

You will only see the message for the battery in the fob briefly on the dash when you open the door and before you press the start button.

I have been monitoring the issue over the past few days more closely and it may not be the starter. I've been driving the car daily and haven't noticed the sluggish starting in about two days. In any case, it's headed to the dealer on Tuesday.

my 2010 e550 had same issue

Had same issue didn't think it could be my battery since it was only 3 years old... but after it was tested it showe'd it was weak but would still start my car. So changed it and upgraded it a bit and since haven't had the issue.

Dealer replaced starter and battery under warranty. Car starts and runs fine. Thanks for all the help.
