Front Parking LED's only work in Reverse

I have a 2014 E350 with P1 - It does not have Parktronic, but it has front parking sensors in the bumper and they light up the LED light bar on the dash when in reverse, but not in Drive...Is there a way to make them work in drive? Thanks!

those parking sensors on your bumper is the parktronic.
front only activates in slow speed. rear only activates when...well you put it in reverse.

Thanks for the reply - but the problem is that the front Parktronic LED's on the dash don't do anything when I move forward at slow speed or get near a car or a wall like they did in my last Benz - they only light up the LED's (on the dash) when I put the car in R. It's strange I think for the front Parktronic to only work when I'm in Reverse

try to put the car in "R" then ask somebody to pass really close to your front sensors and see what happens.

don't you have the toggle button with the P on it near the seat heater button?

As beejAMG said, it should work in drive and reverse. It cuts off in drive after 11 mph I think. Range should be about 40 inches in the front head on, about 24 inches on the corners.

Something is wrong with your Parktronic. There is a fault in the system that needs to be diagnosed. I doubt it is a faulty sensor causing this, as the system would recognize the sensor fault and turn off. The front sensors always work when in drive up to 11 mph.

-wait, I just reread your post. You say you DO NOT have Parktronic, but you have the sensors and the dash mounted front light bar? I am confused.

Yes, it does not have the Parktronic option but it does have all the sensors and LED bars on the dash and rear roof and it does work, but only in reverse. cHECK OUT THE PICTURES:

Thanks for those photos. I guess I am perplexed as to why MB would offer such an option that is clearly misguided. What are you going to hit in reverse with the front of the car that you need an audible warning for? That is nuts.

Anything you might swing that front bumper into as you're backing into a spot. I park next to a pillar in my apartment garage and when backing in I have to make sure I don't swing into it as I'm straightening out the back end. I use the side mirror to gauge how close I am to the pillar, though, since they mark the widest parts of the car.

^ my 2010 and 2006 light bars did not look anything like that one in your photos. I assumed it was 4 years of progress and a new design. Is this indeed an aftermarket setup?

ok just to make it clear again...

OP, PARKTRONIC in our MBs are those round sensor thingys in you front and rear bar/bumper. its the strip of LED lights in your front dash and rear roof headliner that lights up and makes beeping sounds when in use. IF YOU HAVE THEM FROM FACTORY, THEN YOU HAVE PARKTRONIC. if you dont have them from factory. then you have to mention that it is installed as an aftermaket by you or the previous owner so members can provide you with better info with reagrds to your problem. if you dont know. please post VIN so somebody can look it up.

Parktronic is not listed on my factory window sticker or on my options list from Kiev. Also I don't have the button next to the seat heater button to silence or turn the parking sensors off as I did in my last 2 MB's. It's a real mystery! I will go to the dealer and see what they say. Interestingly, if I am parked with the nose to a wall, when I start the car, the sensors go off while I'm in Park, which never happened on my other MB's - they were silent until I put the car in (any) gear. Methinks it is F'd up!
Thanks!

did you have the car from new? if not, my guess is its an aftermarket added by the previous owner. try going to your local car electrician for a fix.

I think you're right...I only have 4 bumper sensors, not the 6 that are shown in the owners manual. Now I just need to find someone who knows how to fix it!

If it is aftermarket as it appears to be, not sure what functionality it should/could have. Good luck with it though.
