2 rods ? What ? And you were just coasting along ???

I don't mean to sound skeptical, but that really sounds strange.

In my lifetime of driving cars, I have missed a shift here and there badly and have bounced the tach off the rev limiter and the engines were still fine.

It takes a lot to bend a rod. Can you get your old engine back so an indy can confirm what they're saying ?

Blown Engine

I was able to coast it to a parking spot but after I got out there was a trail of oil/coolant pouring out from under the engine.. Just had my B service done less than 5k ago at a dealership and they said everything was perfect! The car has about 70,000 Miles on it and has had service done at every interval needed. I don't drive the car hard and its performed flawless since I bought it in March of last year with just over 55k on the odometer.

I'm at a loss now what to do. Depending on if its totaled or not and since it wasn't CPO I'm going to be out of pocket at least 8k likely more.. I'll keep everyone updated what the dealership says but I'm not optimistic..
I had the same thing happen with my CL 600.

Glad everything has worked out. When I was a writer ( at GM) I looked up the cost of a new motor for my 500 wagon. $42900.00 + 22 hrs labor! I'm sure identifix was a bit off but i almost soiled myself. That was for 0 miles OEM.

Jesus. I know this is an old thread but the only catastrophic failures I’ve heard in the M273 were the early ones having bad timing sprockets causing cam timing go off and eventually Pistons meeting valves. Low key makes me nervous about my E550 with 147k miles... glad you got it fixed though. And if they “couldn’t find” what caused it, especially after they just did a B service, something DOES sound fishy. I think MB corporate should’ve coughed up a new engine for you. Unless you ran the engine completely out of oil, or ran too thick of oil, an engine doesn’t throw a rod or two for no reason. Unless it’s a BMW

i've been using Castrol-Edge and Liqui-Moly 10w60 thick oils for the past 4 years now on my 2014 mb e350 to cope with the very hot climate country my mb operates in almost year round with temperatures reaching beyond 125F at times, so hopefully she won't be throwing rods any time soon as a result.
