The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I’ll admit I have grown to enjoy the new tech screens MB is using now. Wife’s GLS (2020) is the latest version Mb is doing with the dual screens across the dash. I kind’ve like it. I also like a well crafted dial like we have in our 212’s too and think they look like high end watch faces. I’m impartial.
the 213 though has a challenge for me. I’m only 5’9” and had a hard time not whacking my head on the door pillar when getting in/out when I had them as loaner cars. It comes down too far. And I had a problem with the cramped feeling of my legs when in the seat because the design of the center stack and door. Couldn’t get in a position I’d enjoy for a long drive. Just a little too cramped with the door pillar coming down just a little too far for my big head to not getting it’s bell rang over and over again.
i didn’t have a problem with the 4turbo, but have one of those on my VW as well, so I’m used to it I guess. Not sure I’d pay premium for a new one with a 2.0t, but CPO would be ok.
however, as long as I can fix this droning noise in my 212 for a reasonable amount, it’ll live with me for an untold amount amount of time. As I’ve said before, I think our version is the last of the heavy weight cruiser feel, that old school Benz feeling. I don’t know about the S class, but in the E class - the 212 is unmatched by the new version in that regard. It’s the one thing nearly all of the reviewers all said about the 212 that they liked - it wasn’t trying to be an A6 or 535. It was a merc and undoubtedly that only, which was a refreshing element of the car the others could not match. The 213 seems like it wanted wanted to compete better with the A6 instead of just being a merc.

Exterior definitely needs mods to stand out. Sport package is a must, but lines are too smooth and not enough stands out.
I realized I appreciate the hard lines and of course drivetrain much more so I'm glad it ended up this way for me.
Until they can improve durability, no Mercedes four cylinders for me. They really should outsource these to someone who knows what they're doing. A partnership with Honda or Toyota or something, or even advancing the agreement they have had with Nissan.
Even if I didn't find the interior of the W213 nauseating, though, the fact my $77k E450 wagon I had as a loaner would regularly bottom out over dips in the pavement where my W212 sedan has no issues would have been a deal breaker. That was an unforgivable engineering faux pas from this company and inexcusable at that price.

Interestingly enough, coming from my w204 sport which nearly scrapes curbs, I found A LOT of new car's rides to be literally garbage. The E-class wasn't that bad but it still
took bumps pretty bad every once in a while. This might be because of the runflats though. I will add, at 6'3", I did not feel any issues with entry/seating in the vehicle.
I ended up with airmatic so I get a great soft ride and firmness when desired. Was the best ride hands down.
The new Benz cars with the RFTs ride terribly, but that's basically a given with those made-from-stone tires.
