Clanking in left rear over bumps
sounds like something is loose. Took to mechanic and was told it was likely the emergency break came loose in the hub and it was not something to worry about though they could take it apart and check it. Is this something anyone has heard of or had experience with?
Oh and long time listener first time caller here. Thanks for any info.

I cant imagine the ebrake coming loose. Coming loose from what? Try approaching a bump that it normally makes noise at, stop and slightly engage the ebrake and then drive over it and listen. Put up with the red blaring warning that your ebrake is on for a moment. If no noise, then the ebrake is suspect. To see what's going on you need to pull off the rotor, which involves a fair bit of work. Not too difficult if you are familiar with the braking components.

I have the same problem now on my 2010 E550 Coupe, not sure what is causing it and it rattled when hitting a bump too, I put it on a lift and can't seem to find the problem, everything looks tight.

It ended up being the spring that holds the break assembly in place. It has snapped and the banging/knocking was the break. Very quick and easy fix, but did not show on a lift.

Good to know, so your guy was right all along. Thanks for coming back with the diagnosis. This will help others who may have a similar noise.
