I Just Don't Understand

I was filling up today at the station and with all the talks about badges lately i just had to post this.

Thats right folks for just $19.95 you too can look like a loser. And not just any loser, oh no no folks, for additional $4.99 you can be a undisputed loser by placing a 5.5 badge instead of a 6.3 on a w212. This way you will fool others into thinking that you took a 5.5 liter engine out of a w211 AMG and crammed it in your engine bay, and tune it to 1000hp at the wheels.

You can do WHATEVER you want to your car, but we will find you and we will have fun at your expense for at least a few days

Are you sure that's not just an E550? At least it has the bixenons and parktronic, no pano though. And yes, I know the E550 didn't have fender badges.

An E 550 does not have a 5.5 liter engine so why would it matter if it was a 350 or 550?

Oh jeez. That mightve been a GLK 250 that he de badged and put 350 4 MATIC because the placement of the 350 looks very high in order to make room for the 4 MATIC. Good find, thats hilarious.

From the DRLs that is either a 2010 or 2011 W212 in sport trim and the E550 did have the 5.5 NA V8 in those models years. It changed to the 4.7 TTV8 in 2012 before they killed it

But even if it is a 5.5l in that car, it's not an AMG despite what the rims say.

I stand corrected on the 550 with 5.5 L, however i highly doubt those cars came with a square 245/45/18 set up. The tires were what i noticed first.

According to the 2011 manual, the E550 tires sizes are the same as the E350 either in staggered or 4matic setup. You would think they would different, but I am not sure they are. IIRC an E550 is almost impossible to distinguish visually from a E350 in sport trim from the exterior alone (without proper badging). In luxury trim, they have difference exhaust tips. Although I believe the rotors are larger on the E550 based on info posted in the forum for brake jobs. Maybe some eagle eyed members can spot some differences. In the interior, airmatic controls would be give away. Leather too but that was a rare option on the E350.

No matter whether it's an E350 or E550, neither should have an AMG badge.

I thought that engine was usually considered by MB to be a 5.4 (rounding down, I suppose). I guess the badge is an easy way to spot an aftermarket item.

Well, if this car is supposed to be a 2010 - 2012 E-Class AMG the front fenders have been changed to the normal E-Class.

But what do those 5.5 badges read? Do they say 5.5 Bi-Turbo or something?

If someone would make a badge saying 5.5 L N/A I would glue them on my fenders in a heart beat.

I debadged my E350 but added E63 exhaust tips and rear diffuser. Subtle, but I really like it. Not trying to advertise anything really.

Thats look really clean actually. Some of the aftermarket rear diffusers / quad tips didnt look right and would protrude to far out. This one looks perfect. As long as you dont slap AMG badges on it, thats a worthy mod.

Thanks. Yeah no AMG badges will be installed. I like how it sits. Looks like OEM for sure. Well, the tips are, but the plastic part is an eBay special. Although I saw a really nice aluminum black AMG hood emblem I liked...but...not trying to front anything. Maybe a black Benz star hood emblem somewhere? (the flat one).
