2010 E550 howling sound during windy days

Hello!

My 2010 Mercedes E550 4Matic, makes a howling or vibrating sound (like when you blow horizontally on an empty glass bottle). It only happens when I am traveling over 70km/h on very windy days. It comes and goes as I change the direction I am driving as some directions are more louder and it comes and goes. A rear passenger said the rear glass was vibrating ever so slightly. I do not have a roof spoiler or trunk spoiler. Any idea what could be causing it?

-Thanks!

Do you have a pano roof? Could be loose... Or, you can try resetting the motor in the door windows by rolling it all the way down, then holding the Up button (but don't click for the auto-up) until it closes completely, and keep holding it for an additional 10 seconds. I think that's the procedure to reset it. You'd then test it by click Down to auto-down, then click Up to auto-up, and it should close completely.

Forgot to mention it's rear view windshield. Not the side windows. Yes, I do panorama roof, but is there a way to check if it's loose? Just eyeballing it, it looks fine.

There's a defect in the pano roof assembly process where it doesn't get tightened down enough from the factory... you can take it to the dealer and have them tighten it down for you... not sure if it is visibly noticeable, but if you go over a bump at a certain angle, it would "pop" if this is your problem. Otherwise maybe the seal in the window is rotting... if it spends any amount of time in the sun, 7 or 8 years of UV rays could've dried up the seals... they should be able to replace them for you. Otherwise I'm out of ideas.

Probably just crosswind noise but you could take it to a glass shop and get an opinion. Sometimes the adhesive can give over time due to stresses on the car.

What does "rear view windshield" mean. I never heard of this before.

Okay. I would suspect the pano roof as well then.
