Question Throttle pedal in a 2014 E550

One question that I did have during my test drive is about the throttle/gas pedal and maybe I just have to get used to it. The E550 has a bottom hinged gas pedal where my Elantra has a rod that comes down from the firewall and attaches to the pedal near the top. When I go to press the pedal in the E550 there seems to be an initial "stuck" feeling to it. Is this an electronic pedal or is it the typical cable with return spring that I am used to? Again, maybe its something I have to get used to.

You are flying by wire. It's all electronic. You will adjust to it.

If it feels stuck you can get a new electronic pedal for about $200

If it feels stuck you can get a tune to unstuck it...

Like Key08 said, I think it is the whole fly by wire thing I am not used to yet.

On a different note to OP. I just had a 2016 Elantra rental and man was it slow. You must feel like your in a rocket ship when switching between your two cars. Did you mod the Elantra in anyway?

No, the Elantra was bone stock. Back in high school I had a 1985 Mustang GT with a 1970 Boss 351 in it and after that I had a 1987 Buick GN with a heavily modded Twin Turbo V-6 (1000+HP) but then I got married and had kids so the toys went bye bye. Been driving Elantras for the past 15+ years or so. This TT V8 is more than enough power for me now. Call it my mid-life crisis

Then you can get a sprintbooster like I did for my e63S and it's much more enjoyable throttle feel

I can digg it, trust me. You'll love the E and it is definitely tons of power. It's kind of like getting your cake and eating it too. Power of a sports car with the functionality of a family cruiser.

I do miss the $27 dollar fillup with the Elantra lasting me 7 days pretty much lol.

Sweet. I had a 1969 Mach1 with a 390, shaker hood and 4 speed toploader and a 1971 Mach1 429SCJ. I love Mustangs along with lots of other performance cars. The TTV8 550 is no slouch and I am enjoying mine. I need to get some photos up soon here I guess.

Here's your chance to swap out the "plain black pedals with AMG stainless steel and rubber pedals. OEM AMG Pedal set for W212 is around $160 on e-bay. I have been told that you can expect a huge performance boost with these pedals, and increased mpg.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't my car already have the AMG Stainless steel and rubber type pedals? Maybe the previous owner installed them? I am new to MB so I am not sure what came standard.

^Looks like they already did the swap for you. I did the same to mines a year ago or so.

The sprint booster "remaps" the throttle so that pushing the pedal a little makes it seem like you've "stomped" on the throttle.

https://www.sprintbooster.com

Part of the issue is the inherent "lag" that is "built in" to the MB stock tune.

Thanks, this wasn't so much as lag as it felt like the throttle cable was binding on the initial press of the pedal. But as others have stated this car is drive by wire so I doubt it's a sticky cable. It could just be me needing to get used to the car or it could be from the way the previous owner installed the stainless steel/rubber pedals. I will ask the dealer when I get it next weekend.

You might also benefit from a TCU reset out of granny mode. The instructions are on the forum somewhere but resetting it every month or two seems to help with the throttle responsiveness as well.

you just literally need a new accelerator pedal mechanism, $160. Your problem will go away

I just bough the car and haven't taken delivery of it yet. It's a CPO so if there is any issues I need to get them addressed by the dealer selling it to me before I make the 2 1/2 hour trip home. Yes there are other MB dealers close to me, but I don't want to get my new (to me) car and have it immediately go into the shop once I get home.

Sending dealer an e-mail now....

Yeah, those are just the AMG pedal covers. Your actual pedal may still be faulty. You really need to get it and drive it before it learns your driving style and do the reset as well as suggested by jacquan3. Having the dealer replace the pedal at this point is kind of silly IMO.
