2013 E Class Ambient Lighting Upgrade

So, one of the things that I have always wanted to change was my ambient light color. Of course the newer models gives you the option to pick and choose colors but with our 2013 models, we are stuck with one single color with different shades. Well, I had a theory, ordered the parts and have successfully tested it on one part of the car. I will be updating this thread with photos so you can do it yourselves and where you can order the parts from. This isn't rocket science at all. Very easy to do. Here are some pics to show you how it looks before and after.

Update: 9/16/17

a few images of the process. the last 2 pics i have to retake.

Original light casing to be reused.

cut the wires but leave enough just in case

where you will be prying it open

new led optic light

open case

But this isn't a "shift-on-the-fly" type of deal, right?
Every time you want a different color, there is a required hardware change...

Correct, it would be nice to get it to work like the newer modes but that will require some $$$$$. This method only required about $50.

You can do what your asking for but that's going to require some after market kits, cutting or trims to make them fit and some engineering building circuits.

My interior lights are white led, my headlights are bright white so hence why I wanted to do this in white.

Oops, I just looked and my lights are mint blue...so I guess I have the ability to change colors; I never really noticed.

I would imagine the dimmer control is still present. It is separate from the color control in 2014-present vehicles.

Would it be possible to install an RGB LED with some sort of Bluetooth controller? By passing the the oem dimmer and switch all controlled via your cell phone or something like that?

I’ve been waiting on someone to come up with this tweak! I tried changing my interior lights to ice blue led’s but the amber ambient lighting totally clashed with it.

Great work mate!

How difficult was it to remove the door panel to access the lights on the doors? Can it be a one man job?
