ECU Tune
I have a 2012 E550 Cab and am thinking of getting an ECU tune. I have narrowed it down to two, the RENNtech ECU+ and the Alpha Performance tune. The RENNtech ECU+ claims 540HP and 705 TQ at the crank and the Alpha ECU tune claims 575HP and 660TQ. I'm not sure where the Alpha tune is measured at. Has anyone had either of these tunes?

I would love to throw our hat into the mix as well. (all the gains half the price)
We have locations all around the world, custom tune the ecu for the mods/elevation/gas, and even offer a warranty to protect against any problems!

I looked at the Eurocharged tune. It looks like the specs are 530HP and 606TQ @ $1999. The performance specs are lower than RENNtech (540HP and 705 TQ @ $2466) or Alpha Performance (575HP and 660TQ @$2399).

Sure. When you press the throttle, there's a delay / hesitation before it gets going. This appears to be a standard MB "feature." Some install a "sprint booster" to compensate while others claim that resetting the TCU will remove it for a while. The best solution I came across was an independent tuner who identified a parameter that he tweaked to remove the lag.

Our tune is actually on sale right now for 1499 if you guys are interested. We are also one of the only vendors that offers a motor protection warranty on our product!
If you are going to a local tuner, just make sure he has a ton of experience in the MB biturbo world. There is a lot to it!
Let me know if you have any questions or send PM. Even if you are going to go to a local tuner, always here if you have any questions on the platform or need to bounce ideas!

Yes it does, I still don't know why mercedes does that with their tuning
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples The higher numbers are typically crank hp not wheel Our numbers are wheel

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
Unless you have a very powerful friend in MB dealer who will help you when things happen.
And usually, on tuners website will state whp (Wheel HP) or HP (Crank HP).
Here I listed tuners numbers comparison. (All @ crank HP)
Renntech - 540 HP / 705 TQ (@crank)
http://www.renntechmercedes.com/inde...l-e-550-detail
EuroCharge - 530 HP / 606 TQ (@crank)

Weistec - 540 HP / 615 TQ (@crank)

Alpha Performance - 575HP / 660 TQ (@crank)

530 HP / 606 TQ are at wheel from Eurocharge ??
From my understanding, this numbers are at crank.

Please, confirm...thanks

My AMR Performance tune eliminated my throttle delay all together. Other than power and reliability, the throttle was definitely one of the reasons why I chose them again for my C43. They seem to be the only ones that address every driving issues.

I looked at this and thought the specs were rather vague. It says 95-105 HP and 135-145 TQ gain, but doesn't says what the gain is over. The stock specs from MB or the real specs?

If you value your MB CPO warranty, my suggestion is not to touch any tuning.

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
I have dyno'ed many times even with my upgraded turbo.
And, Its very easy to tell just by looking at those AMG's numbers. A tuned AMG at Crank is around 670 HP, 700-740TQ
For an E550 to have 530 WHP / 606 WTQ from just a tune. Its impossible.
Eurocharged E550 Page
http://www.eurocharged.com/products/...-software-2014
Performance Numbers:
The manufacturers rating for this engine is 402HP and 443LB-FT of torque.
The Eurocharged rating for the ECU upgrade is 530HP and 606LB-FT of torque.

Any Real WHP / WTQ will have to factor in 17% drivetrain loss from crank hp/tq,
Which equals to 439WHP / 502 WTQ for Eurocharged.
loungn14 Should come up and clarify.

Why would they compare apples to oranges on their own site?
From their site:
Performance Numbers:
The manufacturers rating for this engine is 402HP and 443LB-FT of torque.
The Eurocharged rating for the ECU upgrade is 530HP and 606LB-FT of torque.
Seems if they are making over 600 at the crank, you advertise it as such.

Hey Guys,
Because of the questions with whp vs hp the team has spent the last few weeks going over our site to make sure we were better aligned with how others are representing data (not to mention doing a ton of other changes you will see soon). We would always get calls saying we don't make as much power as we were listing whp not hp etc. Sorry for the confusion, looks like the web team is finally getting things squared.
I will see if I can get some dynos for you to make it even easier.

Just do the math,
530whp/606wtq would equal to crank power 640hp/770hp.
From stock crank 402hp/443tq to 640hp/770tq ??
From just a tune ???

I noticed this right away when I got my car (and its not a turbo). Older cars prior to all this electrical stuff being added had a cable or solid linkage directly to the throttle body. You pressed the pedal and there was a direct connection to the tb. The 'feel' and response you had between the pedal and the engine was immediate and instant. Mercedes doesn't have this direct connection. There is a slight lag and I've noticed some people picking up on it.
As for tuning a turbo to get more power, you have to be careful and realize how much 'reserve' Merc has built into the engine.

Hi, I'm right around the corner from your Orlando shop, I'll probably stop by your upcoming dyno event.
I'm a bit interested in a tune, but my question is this: Can I leave everything stock on Eco mode, but put the really aggressive tune on Sport mode? I don't like the idea of it being aggressive all the time. My wife does drive my car once in a blue moon.
I wish there were a handheld tuner option for MB, like Cobb, where I could swap it back and forth in minutes.

1. Sprintbooster does not defeat throttle lag. It simply shortens the travel time of your foot to the pedal. Example: pressing down 50% on your pedal now only requires you to press down maybe 20% to achieve the save power. I had it on my w211, all it does it tricks you into thinking it reduced lag but once you drive your car around for a bit, you realize nothing has changed.
2. I have the eurocharged ecu tune and have never looked back! It's not jerky in C mode so don't worry about it.
