Maintenance schedule varies by country?

I've got a 2014 E350 here in Japan.
According to the service booklet that came with it the scheduled maintenance interval for transmission fluid and filter change is 32k miles (50K kilometers) or 3 years, whichever comes first.
The same service in the US is recommended at 60K miles (96k kilometers) or 6 years.
I know that MB Japan is disgustingly money hungry, they gauge their customers shamelessly, 1 spark plug for my car costs 3,400 yen which is $30. For ONE plug.
So it is entirely possible that the discrepancy exist to milk owners as much as possible.
However I am curious if someone has a better explanation.

I think you are right. They are just after the money. Maintenance schedule should be the same.

Are we sure both countries use exactly the same transmission?

No, I'm serious. If I recall correctly, MB changed-up the service intervals on the W212 that coincided with a modified tranny...

In Taiwan, MB request to change engine oil every 8000KM (5000 miles). Very disappoint.

Is it possible MB looks at average trip distances, driving styles, and mix of city vs highway driving for different countries and establishes the maintenance schedule based on those parameters? I bet the average U.S. based W212 sees way more highway miles than one in Taiwan (I actually had a chance once to rent a car there for 5 days to experience the driving culture).

I'm lazy to search, but UK might have different intervals.
for instance, 2008 Yamaha FZ6 needs engine oil replacement every 5k miles, where as in UK it is 10k miles or similar. Both are of same specs (including HP).
