2016 E400

I have a 2016 E400 Sedan. I don't see many posts about this model nor have I seen more than another one or two on the road in the past 10 months since I’ve owned mine.

Is this an unpopular car?

I would say probably because it's a short lived model. 2015/2016 then it 2017 became the e43. Im not sure many people saw a difference between e350 vs e400. As both were v6 and pumped out nearly identical hp but different torque.
Not as rare as the 1 model year c400/450 though before it became the c43.

2016 E400
I have a 2016 E400 as well. They are indeed quite rare to see. I personally love it and the performance is certainly quite suitable for my needs.
The dealer straight up told me that it isn't a popular model where I live. Most people opt for E250s.

Wouldn't the W213 thread be where people discuss this car?

No, the 2016 model was still the W212 chassis.

I almost bought a 2016 E400 - was a heavily optioned special order that someone cancelled. Was truly a fantastic car - if not for the updated interior and the big COMAND screen in the 2017, I would have gone home with that E400 in a heartbeat.

2015 E400 and 2015 GLK350
I have a 2015 E400 4Matic sedan, and for me, it is the best mix of performance and luxury. I went shopping in late 2015, hoping to find a left-over E550 but none were around. My dealer had the E400 on the showroom floor, discounted as it had sat there for about six months. One test drive was all it took, and Gonzo came home with me. The E400 is a great "wolf in sheep's clothing" as nobody expects me (the grey-haired dude) to be able to fly like my grey sedan does. A very nice mix of performance and invisibility. I love it, and for me it is a better daily driver than a full-on E63 AMG would be (trust me, I've driven the AMG too).

I wouldn't call the E400 "rare" but it is sure uncommon. I've only seen a handful in my 2 1/2 years of ownership.

I had this very same debate - in the end the engine and options vs the same priced 2017 E200 was a no brainer for me.

Its' performance is quite nice. My father had a 1997 E50 AMG Merc over 15 years ago and the E400 outperforms it in terms of acceleration. Just interesting how things progressed!

Meph - Not only has technology come a long way in the "mid-range" cars, but depending upon where most of your driving takes place, the big pavement-ripper AMG may be overkill. My brother-in-law has an E63, purchased just a couple of months before I bought the E400. We live near Chicago, and around town and in suburban driving, the E400 is about as fast a car as there is room to use/enjoy. There may be a second or so difference in the 0-60 times, but in point-and-shoot urban traffic, the E400 is surprisingly close to the E63 in its abilities - AND nobody notices it! True, from 60 to top-end, the AMG is going to win handsomely, but I rarely get to go over 90 MPH around here. ;-)

My two regrets are that I didn't get the adjustable suspension (although many years from now I may be happier, not having to replace pricey suspension parts), and I regret that MB didn't put a sound system with stronger low-frequency response into these cars. The sound system in my 2001 Lexus LS430 had much better bass than the HK system in E-class.

lol...the auto show next thread feature tricked my middle-aged brain into posting to the wrong thread. Re-posting here...

I picked up a 2016 E400 4matic about 6 weeks ago. After about 2K miles of driving I have to say I love this car. Got it with only 8K miles on the odometer. Was previously owned by the GM of the dealership. Black on black, it had been debadged and windows tinted. It is a great looking vehicle.

I previously drove a 2001 E320 4matic (new, stupid young man) and a 2009 E350 4matic (used 18K miles) and I have to say there is absolutely no comparison.

Since I now buy used based on end of model run (2016) and mileage it came fairly lightly optioned which is fine with me. The option I am most impressed by is the full LED adaptive headlights. They are simply amazing. Love brake HOLD. Love the blind spot assist. Love the rear view camera. Love having full bluetooth integration of my android phone. Above all else I love how quick and quiet this car is.

2015 E400 sedan
I got a 2015 E400 back at the end of June, and I'm loving it. I see E350s all over the place, but I have yet to see another E400 on the road. The extra performance over the E350 is exactly what I was looking for, and I jumped at the E400 when I saw it for sale.

New owner of a 2015 e400.. and I was wondering the same thing about the popularity of this model .. I think one of the reasons that it seems to be kind of unpopular is because it became the replacement of the v8 model . Which I can see y cold hard purist dont fancy the v6 biturbo replacement.. in my short time of owning this vehicle I must say I'm def impressed .. it's fast but nothing too crazy .... the econo mode kind of sucks .. I can feel the turbo lag starting off 2nd gear so I always drive it on sport ..I guess that's me coming out of a 2007 e63 . But I must say overall I'm pleased with the e400 .. love the fact that it's a lil different than all the e350s out there even though the badge is basically the only thing aside from the engine that separates it.. let's keep the e400 conversations going .. !!!!!

Has anyone been tempted to get the Renntech ECU tune for the E400? Seems to bring it up to E43 levels of performance.

Sounds tempting .. 432 lbs of torque is nothing to laugh at... 2200$ not to crazy,.. but would this upgrade void 3rd party warranty on let's say if a turbo, goes out ?

I agree I haven't noticed many on the road as I am in Tampa FL. I have a built 335i 530whp on Pump and a conservative 640whp on E85. I am picking up a 15' E400 with about 26k on the clock so I am looking forward to having it as a DD. I haven't found much mods for the vehicle either, however I plan to just get the chrome trim wrapped and call it a day for now. Any one suggest a 3rd party extended warranty to run with? I've seen Route 66, but have heard only horror stories.

One week of ownership and I love the E400.... Is there a way to code the DRL to run at night instead of the parking lights? Also who is doing their own oil changes? Ordered Liquid Molly kit and filter for $65. Cant wait.
