Is there such a thing as a spark plug break in period??
just curious
The car starts and idles good with no issues , but from first observations looks like the mileage has gone down , i only drove like 20 miles ever since to observe more to make sure , but wanted to hear some opinions?
swapping NGK with Bosch or vise versa make any difference?
I bought Bosch plugs my MPG went down. I returned them and got NGK mileage got little better but not the same as OEM. I regretted messing with the plugs.
Got a 99 lexus gs400 with 269k and still have original OEM plugs.

Hm interesting , so even with new NGKs you still dont get as high mpg as you used to with old NGKs? Hmm
does torque affect it? Maybe we over tighten them or something. Other than mpg the car feel better and it even feels like it starts better and faster.
Often times, the version spec'd by the OEM isn't what the spark plug company normally sells the most of. In general, any good spark plug won't make a bit of a difference, which is a good thing IMO, they should all work the same in normal use. I prefer NGK in general but the bosch plugs are good, just stay away from their gimmicky multi-ground strap ones. They've been proven to do nothing but lighten your wallet.
I think its all good.. i just was coming home from work and i got back again to 26mpg , going to the bay area this weekend so will have a better chance to monitor it on a 100mile drive. Thanks everyone. Always helpful.
Faster warming means engine is burning more fuel for some reason.
lol for some obvious reason , New spark plugs.
ughh but if i see the same gas mileage then its not burning more fuel? Maybe the plug providing better performance?? Lol can i atleast hope for this
Update:
i got a bit disappointed in mpg drop after i installing bosch yr7mpp33 plugs
so today i finally got the NGK 4288 , put them in , and went for a little drive , and immediately noticed mpg increase by 2-3mpg ,
car is as responsive as bosch but saving more gas.
Btw i did some research and bosch has resistance of 6KOhm and NGK is 1Kohm. That's where the differences are.
p.s. BUY NGK
That's interesting how the plugs impacted your mileage. I had no issues like that so I suppose different cars have different operating variations. Anyway its good to have the feedback on this, if I see a change I'll give the NGKs a try. At least the intake doesn't have to come off to change them ☺
I have a 17-year old, 3.2L V6 Mercedes with 105,000 on the odo. The plugs have never been changed, and there is no performance hint -- either power or gas mileage -- that they need to be replaced. Not to mention that I've used mid-grade fuel for the last 12 years, as well..

I don't like pinging or dropping HP in those critical moments, so I always use Premium,
But as I said above, by records misreading I had that engine running over 170k miles on factory plugs with no ill effects.

My 2005 Tundra that I bought a couple months ago has 235k miles on it. The plugs were original when I changed them. I noticed absolutely no difference in anything lol.
Most of the time, spark plugs aren't going to make a difference. The weaker the ignition system is, the more prone to issues as the plug gaps wear, but for most people it's a non-issue.
I think the mb specs on spark plugs for tightening is around 20 lb..ft. I did 20 and checked plugs in a week. All were loose. So I tighten them to 35 lb.ft.

did you tighten those on a warm engine? First time?
interesting changed mine on warm engine (not right after i drove but sometime after) and after i was replacing bosch with NGK a week later they were nice and tight) i also torqued them to about 20ftlbs
And as far as coils go , unless your car is modified for performance i dont think you will really see or notice any difference. My opinion.
