Tires (again)

Still haven't gotten them, but seems top three for ride comfort and low noise are Continental Pure Contact with Ecoplus, Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus and Vredestein Quatrac 5. Never heard of Vredestein until I saw it advertised in an old car magazine. They are made in The Netherlands and sell for less the other two.
Snow, ice, performance, handling, etc. are not nearly as important to me.
Michellins are out for me.
Anyone ever heard of Vredestein?
Thanks

I've just installed Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my MY12 staggered. Absolutely love them. Was previously using Pilot Sport A/S 3. Yuge improvement in terms of handling, noise and grip.

From what I've read, the best one's right now are the Michelin Premier A/S and the Pirelli cinturato P7 all season plus. Any of the one's you mentioned should be good though. Link: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=188

True, but manufacturers don't create new tires every year. They also have had a chance to get a few million miles reported on them via tire rack. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=GTAS.

I got Vredestein installed on my E class back in January. This is the best tire I’ve ever had in any of my cars in terms of comfort, road noise and handling in snow/ice/rain conditions. Much quieter than Contis, Michelin’s, Pirellis, BFs etc which I’ve previously experienced in my current and previous cars I’ve driven in almost 30 years.

Yes, I have had a set on my summer car, and they are very good.

I don't know where you are located, and that would make a difference to me. Michelin Pilot Sports are horrible in cold weather, for example. On my E550 I am running Continental ExtremeContact DWS and they are excellent all-around tires for the conditions I experience in Wisconsin.

Best tires I've ever had for noise and comfort are Sumitomo HTR A/S PO2. I put them on my wife's E350 and my Audi S5. Better than the Contis and Pirellis and half the price too. They've become my go-to tire.

I have the Pure contacts on my 2011. I have the Michelin A/S 3+ on my 2008. The Michelins seem louder than the Pure Contacts. The previous owner had Pure Contacts on the car and I think he got about 60k out of them. The rear tires were cupped badly so I replaced the shocks and got a new set of the same tires. I got them online for about $126 a tire.

I'm in South Carolina, so snow and ice are not a problem. The few days per year that we might get it, I don't drive.
Thanks to all for their input.
Ironically I cannot find a local dealer for Vredestein. And I live in one of the largest SMSA's in S.C. Home to BMW and several Michellin plants.

I buy Vreds for my classic cars and always have to mail-order them. I doubt you'll find a local dealer.

I know you're not for Michelin but they've served me well on several cars over the last 20 years. Still my go-to tire brand.

Hi guys. I need tires for my 2010 E3504matic luxury. I currently have ContactProContacts which are worn out in the back after about 30k and the front left is cupped and noisy. Costco has 70 plus a $60 card for Michelin's right now. On my W211 I replaced Conti's with Michelins MXM's and liked them. Since then they have upgraded the MXV4 to Premiers which CR liked. They are about 150 cheaper than the MXM's ~760 vs ~900. Anything against the Premiers vs MXM's? It seems like the MXMs are targeted towards cars like ours and the Premiers toward more mainstream cars. Given that I just sunk $3200 in a transfer case repair in the mood to save money but $150 over the life of tires isn't really worth it if they are noticeably inferior.

After about 20K miles on my tires, I'll still stand by my Sumitomo recommendation. I put them on my Audi S5 after I got them for the MB and I still love them.

I should have posted that my primary metrics are quietness, minimal vibration and ride quality. When my car was being repaired a friend of mine loaned me his G35 Infiniti which had Premiers and they seemed perform pretty well.

Yeah the fact that the Sumis are so much quieter than the Contis or Pirellis I've had before was the big selling point for me. I'm not out there autocrossing my giant luxury sedan, I don't get why people outfit these cars like someday they might. Haven't had them in snow yet (although I'm sure it's coming soon) but wet weather is just fine.

after going back and forth on whether to spend around 1K for tires or not..i decided to put these no name tires on from walmart about a 2 months ago. great reviews but i was skeptical but so far i've driven about 2500 miles on them and they are great. they are quieter than the DWS's i previously had on. Those worn out after about 30k..which was really disappointing considering how expensive they were. Before the DWSs i had sumitomos and those had great tread life and pretty good snow traction.

it hasn't snowed in the KC area yet so we'll see how these do but so far in the rain it's been great.

update: we had a pretty rough winter in KC area and these tires were awesome! we had everything from rain, ice, sleet, snow. lots of snow. a few storms were 6+ inches and these tires had great traction. i will definitely be buying these again.

Just called Costco again and it sounds like the Pilot Sports A/S3+ are $200+ cheaper than the MXM4's and I was told this time that they don't sell the Premier in the correct load rating. What I have read is the that pilot A/S3's are going to decrease my mileage and ride worse than the MXM4's Anybody have a feel for how much worse they will be?

They're popular tires though. I have them on my W211. Some feel they're noisier or harsher riding, but they have a higher load rating so they tend not to pop as easily as Contiential.

So I go to Costco today because its the last day of the sale and go through the trade in my mind of all of the different options and decide to go with the MXM4's only to find out that they can't get them from Michelin right now.

how about discount tires, 100$ off of 400 or more. brings out to 720$ for MxM4s or Pirelli P7's.
80$ installation.

Sorry for my stupidity but I'm not seeing how you get to $720 for MXM's for my size Keep in mind the $900 figure at Costco is out the door with lifetime balance rotation hazard warranty tax

Right as far as deals go Walmart seems the best with Conti ProContact for ~750 out the door with road hazard.

They were selling 2 tires for 320$ after 100$ discount. total 720 for 2 transactions.
once received, my local guy said he can do for 20$ a tire for mounting, balancing etc.

Then I bought some wheels off of craigslist, so, I did not go through the process. I started a thread here for DT tires sale.

I have no affiliation with Discount tires - but these were $100 bucks off a week ago - when I bought them for $412 delivered...Tirerack ranks them fairly high for a Ultra high AS tire...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-245-40-18-BFG-G-FORCE-COMP-2-AS-40R-R18-TIRES-31171/311727059509?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid =p2060353.m2749.l2649

Just
a though for those with a 4matic and need all the same size!

Screaming deal if you ask me!
Cheers

Ok I think I get it now. So you put in the code at checkout correct? Very nice deal. I like the tip on two transactions. Clever. I may do this. I just worry about if something is wrong with a tire then I would imagine you are probably stuck. Thanks for passing it along
