I can confirm you do need to email him your VIN. the OBD2 port is located right next to the latch inside the car to open the hood. You may need to look first with a flashlight. I'm not sure about your landmark question. Can you be more specific?

I turned on the engine. I turned on the radio. I pushed the red hang up button and at the same time pushed the 7 and 9 keys. I got no response. I did this after getting car back from dealer how updated Comand to 5.1 for about $200. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you I was not holding long enough. Got the menu
11. Apple Car Play Volume
Now waiting for the dongle.
Are there any changes that I can see after update to Comand 5.1 unrelated to AA/ACP?

Hey all. Quick update.....Got the dongle this week and installed today successfully. CarPlay is now active in my March 2015 build E63s. Thanks again to all who created and submitted content on this post as it was very beneficial. Now awaiting the "wireless" CarPlay module to see if that works as well. Stay tuned......

If you got the vehicle back from the dealer after getting Comand updated, most than likely "Engineer mode" was not activated at the dealer, since this mode doesn't come pre-activated with the software update.

Yes, and that only works if "Engineer mode" was activated via Mercedes Vediamo. I had my Comand software updated at the dealer and after I got it back "Engineer mode" was not working any more. Luckily I have the Mercedes Scanner and was able to activated again.

Not doubting you at all... But I've never had to ask my dealer to activate "engineering mode" It has always worked, both before and after the firmware update.

What you are talking about is engineering mode, which yes is disabled with NTG5.
The screen you are looking for in terms of finding “CarPlay ringtone volume” is in the dealer mode. It is 100% active on all of these cars.

Thinking about upgrading phones. What Android phones are you using with AA in your 2016, and how smoothly does it work?
Last few years I've bought several items from Samsung (four HD and UHD TVs, older phones, etc) and found them very reliable. For my purposes -- phone, text, occasional AA use -- I don't need a new S20... All of these phones are getting too big anyway. I don't stream videos on my phones... I gave up small screen TV when I got married 40+ years ago.
So I'm thinking Samsung S10 or similar (maybe an earlier model than S10). Google Pixel 3 or 4? Point is I want to find a phone that works well when needed -- and backward compatible -- with the 2016 MB Android Auto in our cars. i.e. no need for the latest if the 2016 version of AA can't use it.
This whole thread is titled (about) Android Auto, so I'm not interested in Apple Coolaid stuff.
Your thoughts?

The only issue I sometimes have is that the phone data signal used by the car here in the UK on Vodafone is not a great signal where I live so sometimes I get an activation error and have to reconnect the phone for it to work.

Good to see input from Europe. I do wonder which of the brands -- like Huawei -- would be supported in the US, in unlocked mode, I suppose. Huawei is known around the world. I see several other Chines brands noted on the Banggood website. But I'm not convinced to gamble on those. I might look to see if the Samsung S9+ is still available.

Have used three phones so far with my 2016 and AA. No real problems with car/command with any of them.
started with a Moto X Pure, then moved to a Nokia 6.1, and now a new Nokia 7.2. I like the Nokia(s) for their Android One support and guaranteed OS and security updates. No bloatware and updates for 3 years.
My only issues have been with Android Auto updates (software) or Google Assistant - all known issues that many many AA users have reported. Had nothing to do with the handset nor MB Command.

By the way, for folks with cars that include Build code 608 and 640, check out ILS, night driving difference is literally Night and Day

Any luck with your quest on achieving 'Wireless Carplay/Android Auto'? I am assuming you are referring to this dongle: https://carplay2air.com/products/car...to-mirror-link
OK, here is the link... https://www.ebay.com/itm/262451909947?ul_noapp=true
Do read the many steps required to be successfully done before ordering this module. It's completely pointless to buy this module unless all steps are taken first.
The "wireless" dongle you have identified as another adapter to be used after you have ACP/AA. There is not much experience with this wireless dongle mentioned here.

No, the dongle referenced is an OBD2 module sold by vladimircdi from Eastern Europe or Russia. Links are throughout this thread, around posts 60-100. Search there.

Yes, I got the module with Android Auto, ILS and AMG Menu (Engine temp etc) including tank info, but unfortunately my car's cluster menu software does not support AMG Menu.
Now trying to figure out the wireless AA. Since bluetooth audio works, hopefully wireless AA will too, but I understand phone battery consumption will be a concern.
