EClass E350 limp mode W212

Hi, purchased above had it for 3hrs and the engine management light came on and went into limp mode. Contacted dealer(Mercedes specialist) who said to return it. Had it checked diagnosed my end first and it had egr fault. On return to dealer it also read an egr fault and they replaced it. The car still went into limp mode so they sent it to main Benz and they done a software update and apparently this has solved the problem. They are insisting on keeping the car for another week to run some miles up to make sure it’s ok. So they will have had the car for 3weeks and their lack of confidence in fixing the problem is unreasuring. How would you deal with this? Thanks

What year is the car?
I'm not taking any sides but here's what I read.... you had a problem, which the first dealer verified and repaired. Then perhaps the root issue of software came up and the MB dealer corrected it and sent it back to first dealer who wanted to verify repair rather than send the car back to you.

I take it you bought the car from a third party dealer (mine was bought same way), and after being sent to MB dealer for software repair they now have the car back but are hanging onto it?
I'm not convinced that's a lack of confidence, could be they simply want to ensure the repairs are truly done. But I'm not sure though that I'd let them drive my car around going to lunch and maybe someone's home. I'd probably want it back with the understanding that if more issues come up then back it goes. You can just as easily put some miles on it.

I know ....I can understand where you are coming from- it just seems a bit fishy. The car came back from Mercedes on Thursday and my dealer requested to keep it over the weekend to check it out. I phoned up to get the car delivered back on Monday and they then wanted to keep it until the end of this week. Why don’t they take it out for good spin over the course of two days max.
The car is 2010 one keeper and 70,000 on clock, it has been really looked after.
Would a software update resolve car going into limp mode?

Unless there was component/connection/communication issue then I think looking at software is reasonable path to take. Plus if the root cause of the trouble is not evident I would think that dealer diagnostics would be able to identify corrupted software.
If they kept the car over the weekend it seems that you should be able to take it back. Of course if they were closed over the weekend did someone take it home?
I think it's fine to give them a chance to fix it but easy enough for you to get the car back, again as mentioned, with the understanding that you'll bring it back if needed.

2014 E550-sold 😩
You should demand a full tank of gas at least. Normally, I would say they should provide a rental car for your use, but I understand their comeback would be that everything they are doing is to insure the car is fixed for good. Kind of a bad conundrum.

So wait, you only had the car for a short amount of time? I would believe it would be a potential lemon car that was involved in a 'Trade Assist'

Definitely a problematic trade in. The dealer is supposed to return the car tomorrow- Thursday 23. Will call them later to see if they are going to and if the car is fixed

Car was delivered back Thursday as promised. Seems to be running really well- hopefully problem resolved. It’s been emotional lol.

Hi, just wondering If you got the problem fixed because I am dealing with the same problem.
I've tried almost everything and nothing have worked so far.
even when I took it to a Mercedes workshop they just told me we need a software update and we did that and still nothing has improved.
