under engine splash covers
I have just bought a 2011 E350 I would like to find a diagram that shows where all the bolts are to remove both of the splash shields under the front of the car.
Not sure if I have to remove both of them to drain oil from pan. I have the sport model and it sits pretty low. makes it hard to see where all the bolts are without jacking it up high.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thannks,
Harvey

I don't have a diagram but. It's pretty straightforward once you get under there. You can't miss them. Mines a 2011 E350 sport, all 8mm head screws. If I remember right 4 along the front, 2 at outer edges, 2 generally centered and 2 that are shared by second cover. You don't have to take the second cover off for an oil change.
I don't mind getting under to drain the oil as it lets me take a look at the undercarriage. But I also use an oil extractor to suction oil out thru the dipstick, sort of alternate between the two methods at different oil changes. I believe the preferred method is the extractor, but I get same amount of oil out whichever I use.

I just purchased a Mityvac 7201 to do a trans service refilling after pan drop/filter change. I have heard that the dealer preferred method for doing oil changes is from the top via dip stick tube. Since the oil filter is on the top and easily accessible, that seemed to me to be easier than jacking the car up and crawling under it to drain the oil from the bottom. I just did my normal under car oil changes on both my MB's so I won't get a chance to do an above ground change til next fall after a couple of trips back and forth to Florida.
Good luck,
Bob

I just changed the oil about a week ago and didn't have to remove the second cover.
Yup it's easier to suction the oil out - my point about getting underneath is mainly for the opportunity to give a look at underside stuff. Just a quick diy inspection.
