Has Anyone discovered the Max size SD Card?

My 2016 W212 can use 32GB SD cards. But there are some current Christmas sales on 64GB and even 128GB cards. For anyone with a facelift year car (presumably tha latest SD tech available) what is the largest capacity are you using? The owner's Manuals are no help with this.

I do not want to buy a 128GB drive, and format it FAT32, only to find it unusable...

I'm fairly sure that it's physically not SDXC compatible, which limits this size to 32GB SDHC cards only.

You need to have an XC capable reader in order to read cards larger than 32gb, and the XC standard is completely different than the SDHC standards. While XC readers are backwards compatible, HC readers are not forwards compatible.

Sounds fairly definitive. Do we all agree?

We have 3000+ songs on our 32GB USB. Think we have to drive non-stop 10 days straight to listen to all the songs.
So 32 GB is good enough for us...

Yes, I agree. My 32GB card is full to the brim and will play for days without repeating.

I ask this question because each of us have other devices that accept SD cards, to include laptops, tablets, etc. I received a new MP3 player for Christmas that accepts up to 126GB SD cards. So...... the question seeks to find the most compatibility between multiple device platforms. I don't expect a 3 year-old car to thave the latest tech, just looking for the limit. Ungarisch's answer seems to be the most definitive I've read among all the sub-forums on this site. His information is appreciated.

SDHC tops out at 32GB. If you have successfully used a 64GB card, then the car must be equipped with an SDXC compatible reader, which means that "technically" you can use cards up to 2TB.

I recently got an SD Card, Samsung 128GB for $19.99, to load some DVDs for my kid to watch. I got it formatted to FAT32. I tried every possible way to play it on car's system, but it would say, "File Not Playable." So, after reading this thread I decided to load up some audio files on it. As soon as I plugged it in, system picked it up and it played like a champ. In other words, video did not work, but audio did. Attached is a pic of it playing.

OK, for my 2016 E-Class, I just loaded 150MB of songs on the following:

Samsung EVO micro SDXC UHS-1 Class 10, 64GB capacity, formatted "exFAT" as it arrives in the package.

It plays in the car slot just like a 32GB SDHC card. So, I presume the slot (MY 2016) is configured to accept XC cards.
Next step is to load more than 32GB of songs and see what happens.

Here's an update... I finally loaded the following SDXC card with 40 GB of music and photos....

Samsung EVO micro SDXC UHS-1 Class 10, 64GB capacity, formatted "exFAT" as it arrives in the package.

In my 2016 Comand system, this card works perfectly, finding all the music file folders on the card (40GB+) and playing without any problems or errors. I do not know in what MY the software was upgraded to be compatible with the SDXC file structure in the larger capacity cards.

I can only say it works on the 2016 model. YMMV if it works on an earlier model year.

Agreed.. I have 16gb, enough for me.

One suggestion: Never use unknown brands, always use original Sandisk, Kingston etc. brands. Unknown brands blocks the Audio 20 systems, it freezed (experienced).

I dug into this a while ago. See here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post7491077

There are limits on the total number of songs, folder depth, and speed differences in load time if there are multiple file types on the card.

Nobody could ever answer the question definitively about the maximum size of the card, however.
