Tire Recommendations - 2013 S212
Looking for tire recommendations to replace the OEM Continetals on my 2013 Wagon (4 Matic). I was originally leaning towards the Michelin AS3 Plus but reading some reviews that indicate they may be noticeably louder than the OEM Contis. Anyone have any other recommendations? I live in low part of NC (SC border) so we don’t get much winter weather. An All Season tire should suffice.
BTW, I only have 22k miles on the OEM set....only lit about 4K miles per year. They were manufactured in 2012. Do I need to replace all 4 bc of the age alone, just 2 to have even treadwead on the rears/fronts or simply the one that is damaged (sidewall bubble from a pot hole)? The tread on the non damaged 3 tires is between 5/32 and 6/32.
Thanks!

I've been having good luck with Contis. Had a set on my 2010 that went to 35k and still had reasonable treadwear left. Replaced them with DWS 06. Just put a set of Contiprocontacts on wifes avalon. OEM michelins were shot at 28k. While doing research on last set I saw that CR rates Conti right after Michelin but notes that they are quite a bit cheaper for almost the same quality. YMMV.

I replaced the OEM Conti's on my 2013 wagon with Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+. Noise with the Michelin is much lower than the Contis were. Conti's were down to about 4/32" with 29k miles on them. Michelin also rides smoother than the contis

Be careful here -- your mind may be comparing the new Michelins versus the old Conti's. Not a fair comparison. Must be new to new or old to old.
I put Michelin AS3's onto a Lexus LS430, and even brand new they sounded like truck tires. Took them right off.
My E400 came with Conti ProContact, and I ran them for 30,000 miles. It is right now at the shop having Conti ExtremeContact DWS06's installed. These are supposed to be an upgrade from the ProContact's. Can't give a report on them yet - haven't even picked up the car.

For me, the ExtremeContacts were noisier than ProContacts even when new.
You have a point comparing new to worn tires as far as noise goes, but I had another car that had virtually new Conti ProContacts on it, and they were also much noisier than the Michelin are. (But then again it's two different model cars)
Just putting out my experience with the Conti ProContacts vs Michelin AS3+ on my E350

2014 E550-sold 😩
I use the ContiProContact as well. I find them to be very quiet. They do have a soft sidewall, which is not pothole friendly as many of us have found out. In the summer I am running the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position on 19" E63 AMG wheels. It's a completely different car. Not an Estate, but the ride of these E Class models is similar.

I've been very happy with my Pirelli Pzero Nero AS. I actually replaced them with another set of the same. They run smooth and quiet. Grip is very good, even in the rain, but I also have 4matic. I get them at Discount Tires store.

My vote is Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ In fact just ordered a set for my 2011 W212. Pirelli Cintaurato P7 All Season is another very qualified candidate based on previous experience with my 2013 Taurus. The only reason I didn't go with them again is I couldn't find them in the 265/35/R18 for the staggered rear setup. Pilot Sport A/S 3+ have good reviews, good all season tread low road noise and 500 treadwear rating. Tops in temperature and traction and nice design.
NOTE Wherever you get them from and whatever brand you go with inspect prior to installation. Make sure that all the production batch date codes match as in all tires same or close to as possible. Example if one tire had a 25th week of 2018 production code then all four should have. If they give you all older tires from the warehouse you might not be able to avoid that but at least have all four match.

Having different circumference tires on AWD could cause additional wear and possible failure of various components (mainly the built into the transmission transfer case on 4Matic), I don't know what the Mercedes allowable tolerance for size variation between the axles but when comparing the cost of a transmission replacement vs the extra $400 to do 2 additional matching Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ tires, I'll take the tires.

I am not 4MATIC but staggered rears and I can concur with R/R four at same time. You could probably sell the gently used ones to a mom and pop tire shop that they can sell as used to help recoup some of the expense of new sneakers for the 4 MATIC.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations! I ultimately ended up having a brand new set (all 4) of my OEM Continental Pro Contacts replaces”d with DWS06 today. I narrowed it down to Pro Contacts, DWS06, and Michelin AS3+. I went with the DWS06 bc I concluded they would have a stiffer sidewall than the Pro Contacts. This was important to me as I want to avoid anymore sidewall bubbles in the future of at all possible. Even though the DWS06 don’t apparently have as stiff of a sidewalk as the AS3+, it seems they’ll be quieter (even though not as quiet as the Pro Contacts). In summary, I felt I was getting a good balance between a stiff sidewalk and a low noise tire. In addition, I read raving reviews about their grip in all condtions which was my primary factor (sidewall ans noise were secondary factors). Only had them on for a day but the awesome grip seems to be true. The price was very fair and come work a 50k mike life expectancy on a square setup. And Continental provides free road hazard for 1 year. In addition, they provide free road repair or towing (up to 150 miles) for the 1st 3 years (just have to register the tires online).
Thanks again for your help!
BTW, where can I sell my 3 Pro Contacts with 5/32 tread remaining?

I have not used them myself but my friend in the Pacific Northwest had a set for this 15 Taurus SHO. The OEM Goodyear Eagle F1's were the performance summer only. I got those for my 14 SHO figuring they could get better use down here in DFW area. I had them for almost two years and 26K miles which by most reviews were about 2,5 times longer than the estimated service life (Jan2016-Sept 2017) After 25k miles with year round use including two almost 5000 mile road trips they finally gave up the ghost at the 2017 TX State safety inspection! Cord Showing, automatic fail...do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Hint at least TX inspectors for safety inspections. They start with Tires. Tread showing AUTOMATIC FAIL, They don't even bother filling out paperwork, at least mine didn't. He did allow me to go home and bring back the OEM MIchelin Priacy MXM4's that were in the garage and still had the OEm flower petal wheels. to get inspection complete.
Back to the Continental he had the DWS06 because he needed a all season comfort, performance with decent wet, dry, snow, ice tread and traction with low noise. He highly recommended them until a rogue building contractor spilled a box of roofing nails at the PDX parking garage during one mf my friends out of town trips. Contractor admitted.......(The security cameras, parking log and license plate scan helped with the admission but that's another story.) Contractor made good on repair and I believe local marketing area was outor very low inventory of the DWS06. He got a total replacement four Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and of course recommended them to me when I needed to R/R my Primacy's
I would say good choice and I have heard early versions of Continentals were kind of weak but sounds like they upped their game. Keep us posted after some wear in and decent mileage pattern.

My older MB came with Pirelli P6s. They were OK. I've had other cars equipped with Contis, and they were OK, but just OK. I've also had Bridgstones, Dunlops and Michelins as OEM tires.
Car manufacturer OEM tire selections are based on negotiated price per tire, not whether the tire is the best for the car. MB (like others) buy tires by the train load, so cost is important to them. Among the brands listed above, I've not had a single set of OEM tires last more than 30,000 miles, even when they have treadwear warranties to 60,000. I've learn through experience that OEM tires are "lowest cost" tires, more beneficial to manufacturers than to consumers.
My older MB is on it's second set of (non OEM) YOKOHAMA tires, and I intend to place YOKOs on the E-Class when it needs them. I've had great luck with YOKOHAMA tires, which are comfortable, quiet and more durable than any OEM tire.
