W212 Command Shuts Down
I need help, as I am new to this forum and still finding my way around. I am having an issue with my 2011 E350. When driving I get the message of Command Shutting off and Pre Safe inoperative. My whole navigation system shuts down, the command radio and all. When this happens, my seat heaters will not stay on, and I notice the lighted steering wheel controls go off and on. Its in the shop now, and they seem to think its the fan in the radio?? Any suggestions would be great... Dan
ps- I love this forum, you guys are great!

A radio fan? No clue what they are suggesting, but it sounds like a SAM going bad with multiple electronics failing and shutting down.

COMAND verifies connectivity within an audio "ring" that includes various controls (like power, steering controls, etc.). If it cannot communicate within the vehicle it will shut down or continuously reboot. This can also be a software issue within the COMAND unit. But, with the other pre-safe message I think Key08 is on to something.
SAM is Signal Acquisition Module, essentially a gateway for circuit continuity in the car. I believe there's a front and rear SAM.
What I would suggest is taking it somewhere that has the diagnostics to scan all modules within the car - there are a bunch of them, SAM, ABS, etc. It sort of sounds like your current shop is guessing.

Two of them basically handle all of the communications in your car to control all functions properly and in the proper sequence as necessary.
Is this a flood car by any chance? Any remote chance it was in a flood?

I am thinking the same thing! This is the first time I am not using the dealer, however the manager of the shop has been out of town so, hopefully this is why.. 100% agreed! Will let you know what we find out next!

You have owned it for a long time, I will assume. I only mentioned flood car as #1-there are many out there now with recent weather #2- Flood cars drive great until electronics begin to fail as the water takes its toll.
I hope you get it sorted. It will involve proper diagnostics that I hope your Independent guy has access to.
