Is a loud engine normal for an E350 Sport?

um, a W212 E350 has a 3.5L V6, either M272 or M276 depending on the year. The M276 in our 2016 is whisper quiet at idle, you can hardly tell its running

2016 E350 Sport
Hi, all,
Forgive this ignorant question. I just got my first Mercedes.
I've noticed that the engine is a lot louder in the cabin than my prior cars (Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Jeep), particularly while accelerating. It's a "throaty" noise - like a sports car. As I have the E350 Sport, I could see it being the case to a degree. However, is it really normal to be so loud from the cabin? Have any of you noticed this?
I've been told by a friend that generally European cars have louder engines than Japanese cars.
Just trying to make sure it's not something wrong like a bad muffler.

This is the W212 subforum, and nowhere have I seen the OP say what year or anything about w213. I'll repeat what I said, a W212 E350 is a 3.5L V6. The first couple years of W212 used the earlier 90 degree M272, the later ones use the 60 degree M276 direct injection engine. The stock exhaust system is extremely quiet, the engine and passenger compartments are very isolated and soundproofed. The W212 were sold with two trim and suspension packages, 'Sport" and "Luxury', these have the same engine and transmission, the Sport has different exhaust tips, AMG styled front and rear bumpers, and slightly lower/stiffer suspension with 18" wheels, and different interior trim color themes
