AMG mufflers
New member here. Hi all. I have been doing some searching and haven’t been able to find the answers I’ve been looking for.
I have a 2012 E550 and it is soo quiete. I came across some AMG mufflers advertised as having come off of a 2012 E63 AMG part no. A218 490 01 01. During my search to see if they’d fit I found that that part number belongs to a W218 CLS 63.
Has as anyone made these fit successfully on a W212? Pictures?
Any help would be much appreciated.

So I just found out that the A218 refers to the W218 chasis code (CLS). I guess the only question left is will the CLS 63 mufflers fit a 2012 E550.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

2014 E550-sold 😩
Not sure you will find your answer here regarding whether the mufflers are interchangeable. I don't know of anyone who has cross-shopped mufflers from one model to another. The TTV8 is quieter than the 2010-11 normally asperated E550 due to the turbos. Some have gone as far as removing the mufflers entirely. I'm fine with the sound, personally. I already have a car that produces over 100db and one is enough.

Thanks for the reply.
I am coming from the e46 community that used to be huge on mods. I realize these are two totally separate classes of cars though.
While doing some more research it appears that the mufflers may fit but the tips are different. The difference however wasn’t specified. My assumption is that the tips are longer or pushed out further due to the CLS’s length. In any case I’m not sure if I should gamble and pick the CLS63 mufflers up.

On my W212 2010 E350, I got the mufflers removed and just got some pipe welded into it's place. This thing sounds freaking amazing. A lot of people have asked me if it's AMG. I definitely recommend just getting a muffler delete, it's a lot cheaper too.

Yesterday I came across this video of a CLS 550 with E63 AMG mufflers. it sounds sweet, but more importantly this shows that’s these parts may be interchangeable between chasis.
In any case I purchased the CLS 63 mufflers, and will keep this thread updated on the outcome of the install. This may help the community for people who want to do this in the future. Hopefully the end result is positive.
Thanks all for the help and comments!

Thank you! I’ll post pictures when its done.
Yeah I’m hoping it will be straight forward.
My guess on this is a little custom cut and weld going on, but not too much for your average exhaust shop to knock out in a couple of hours. I test drove a CLS 550 with the same m278 engine and it definitely had a slightly sweeter exhaust note. If they are actually a simple bolt on exchange I'll start searching for a pair of those. I may do it anyway and just have the exhaust shop do what they do.

No drone at all, city or highway. It sounds perfectly quiet. There is a little more turbo noise at WOT and the car is just more audible/throaty at WOT. It’s a very subtle mod honestly in the way of sound. I’m told it’s quite a bit louder from outside the vehicle, but from inside you can barely notice. Mercedes vehicles must have some next level insulation. I thought it was going to be louder.
I am trying to keep the car classy and not sounding like it’s broken. I’m still on the fence about a resonator delete. When I did a muffler delete on my e46, the drone was unbearable. We’ll see.

Let's get an audio clip please! I would love a little more sound (outside) too. Most I have seen go for the complete E63 exhaust, which is a little bit much for me, and expensive. Did you buy the complete exhaust, or just the chopped mufflers? Curious if the rest of the pipes and hangers line up from the CLS.

The person I bought my mufflers from said that they came off of an E63. The part number shows that they are for a CLS. My assumption now is that the turboed E63 and CLS possibly share the same mufflers. I cannot confirm this though.
All I swapped over to my car was the AMG mufflers. The rest of the pipes before the mufflers are OEM E550. The outer muffler mounts match 100% they are in the same location. The E550 does not have the center muffler mounts. In pictures 1-3 you can see what I am talking about.
Also the mufflers physically mount up, but the pipe has to be adapted to fit. The AMGs stock pipes a larger than the non-AMG cars.
I used the stock hangers on the ouside of the mufflers. The inner hanger on the muffler is not used. My muffler shop said the single mount could support it just fine.
