BLK flat hood badge
Hey any of u guys know we're I can find a flat BLK hood badge to replace the blue one on my 2015 212? I've tried eBay and the couple of sellers tell me that the ones they are selling wont fit ? It is 45 mm rite ? Thanks
I got one on ebay (Same as OEM but Black Laurel) and loved the way it looked and fit. I've had it for a few years and it looks like the clearcoat is fading. I have now ordered the new style of OEM Ornament.

bigjule, you asked for a 45mm badge (I think)... the size that fits flush within the divot on the hood.
Do a Google search on "Mercedes-Benz A0008171701" and you will find several merchants of the black badges shown above, offered in M-B packaging.
Be aware that while these black badges are handsome, they are 57mm diameter, the same size as what comes stock on the car, the clip on type that fits OVER the hood divot.
If you are happy with the raised over the divot type, then you have found your answer. But if you really want the 45mm type, these are not it.
Suggest you PM member/sponsor JBSPEED... He offers an excellent 45mm badge for recessed hood fitment. However, his sponsored thread on this forum feature the traditional dark blue leaf surround. You can ask him if he has the smaller diameter in black. It's a long shot, but he is probably your best bet, and he is a good guy.
While we are on this topic, please allow me to expand... to answer the 3 PMs I've already received today, presumably as a result of this thread...
I created my last White Star Flat Badge in Dec. 2013, when I ran out of parts. Altogether, there were 900 White Stars and AMG badges produced and distributed worldwide since 2006. So, in short, while I am flattered to receive PMs, please refrain from these inquiries, as I no longer manufacture flat badges of any type, and haven't for 6 years.
Deciding in 2006 that my next car would be an E-Class, I kept the very first badge (ser.no. N001), now installed on my 2016 E350, bought 12 years later (below).
My apologies for taking this thread a bit astray... I just want to put the questions to bed as quickly as possible.

wow that looks nicely flushed ... And thanks for the valuable information 👍
I received the new OEM Black Laurel and I am not very happy with it. It is very lightweight and appears to have a dimple in the black area under the Star. It was NEW in a sealed factory packaging but is definitely not the same quality as my older hood ornament. So sad.

DFWDUDE,
I got one of your badges and the quality is just awesome. Looks just like in the picture above though my car is a bit darker color. But the key is the size of the base.
Cars with the badge already on the hood come with the hood badge with the bigger diameter. My car is a 2010 model and the stand up star mount is the smaller one . Any car coming from the MB with the stand up star on the hood has the smaller divot on the hood so the flat hood badge from MB does not fit as it the bigger one.
When I ordered the big star grille from 55Tech it came with that bigger diameter plastic hood badge. I tried to mount it but it looked very bad as there is a crease on the hood and with the too big diameter the badge does not seal against the hood all around. That is why I ordered the best badge available at the time from you DFWDUDE. It is just awesome quality. I remember it cost me $129 but it is worth every penny.
I lost the star on the engine cover. The silvering came off and after an oil change service at the dealer the ugly looking star was gone so I glued the too big hood badge in that place. It fit there just fine.

were did u purchase it from ? Also u mite of just gotten a dinged up one ..
I ordered it from eBay and it stated it was an OEM part in Original packaging. I am 99.9% sure it is a knockoff. The seller was too quick to process a full refund. They also canceled the transaction so I couldn't leave feedback.

Back when these 57mm flat badges first appeared, the SL model (from which the badge is originally sourced) had a flat hood. Actually most all MB hoods of that era were flat, so the larger diameter badges sat flat on top of the hood, too.
Since then the "ridge" has developed on several MB sedans, while the dealer flat badges were not redesigned to match with a slight bend top to bottom. Hence you wind up with the East and West edges sitting up to form a small gap. Really annoying when drying the car after a wash, and the towel catches under the badge. And the plastic is so thick, you don't dare try to bend it.
yeah, 57mm ones don't fit(not to my liking anyway...), go for the 45mm ones. You can see in the pic below how it rides on the ridge and has a large gap on both sides.
I have a special one on order that is all metal and limited edition. I'll post pics here when it comes in. If the quality is good, I'll post a link to where I got it. Don't want to suggest something unless I know it's a quality item.

This.
Anything you order from China that says it is genuine is more than likely not. A lot of eBay items as well(guess where they come from...lol). They(the Chinese) do a really good job of duplicating the boxes and part number stickers...
I didn't order mine from China- it was a US Seller. The Seller refunded the purchase and canceled the transaction so I couldn't leave negative feedback.
