What do service codes mean

Dragging this back up - my E350 shows next services are 1, 3, 8, 12. I believe 1 is A service, 3 oil change, 8 engine air filter, 12 spark plugs. That would make sense as this service is due right at about 49,000 miles.
But I've searched around and can't find a specific list of all of the different numerical codes and what they mean. The service sheet does spell out what needs to be done, but the numerical codes themselves are not listed - probably because it's not meant for our eyes.

Yeah, the SA will know the services indicated with the number behind A or B, i.e., A9
Your attempt to guess is not going to work. And no this is not the 9th A service.

A3 means it's the 3rd A service for my car. I have 40,000 miles so I've had 2 A and 2 B. Next up is the 3rd A service. This info is all over the net.
The service sheet widely shared by konigstiger and the maintenance booklet itself both list what is required, so it's not a mystery and one can easily keep up with it that way. But I was hoping someone had some inside information on the service codes. Why is "12" spark plugs? Why is "8" the engine air filter? I've found those in my searching. But if someone had a list of numbers and what they mean, that could be helpful for the forum as a good number of us do not service at dealers. The only reply on this thread was from someone saying the service codes are in the manual - but they are not.
