All,
My new to me 2016 E350 did something strange today.
As I live in Florida while shopping the car was parked outside in direct sunlight.
The car has dark tinted windows and the sunroof shade was closed.
The temp was about 95 deg.
When I returned the side windows were opened about 2-3” and the sunroof was opened to the vent position.
I thrived to find something in the owner’s manual to no avail.
Anyone have an answer?
TIA

Did the unlock button on the key perhaps get inadvertently pressed/held briefly? That is usually the explanation behind this type of thing.

I ask because if you hold the key close the the handle(little square window on handle) and hold the unlock button on the remote, it will open all windows and the sunroof until you release the button. will close all with lock button on key as well(as will holding the "lock" divot on the door handle if you have keyless option).

There is a convenience feature where you can open all windows and sunroof at the same time, remotely with the key fob. This has been a feature since the 90s (at least in my 140 S class). To do this, hold down the unlock button on the key fob while you’re a few feet away from the vehicle. All windows and sunroof will open. To close, hold down the lock button.
You may have accidentally held down the unlock button with the key in your pocket, squeezed by other keys or objects. This happened to me once while I was squatting (pants stretched over thigh where I keep keys) and the pressure from the objects/keys in my pocket pushed the unlock button and held it down.

I think it is IR beam and must have clear path from key FOB to the receiver on the door handle.

Strange as in my to cars the convenience opening works only if I'm close enough to the car and aim the end of the key FOB to the small square "window" in the driver's door handle. It will not work if key is in the pocket.

Are we sure the IR thing is true for the 2016? I remember the IR sensors and how close you had to be. My 2016 has no sensors like that and also will open the windows from quite a long distance.

And yes, I did just test this while I was standing at the hood of the car, with the key in my pocket.
