E class 250 cdi
Hi I’m looking to buy a 62 plate with 177k miles with full mbsh. It’s the 7gtronic gearbox and listed for £4995, which is in my £5k budget.
Anything I should be asking the dealer in terms of other history or any faults I should be looking out for? Are these fairly reliable with this high mileage or should I go for lower mileage but perhaps an older version
checked mot history and there’s no advisories.
I do around 20k miles per year; are there any significant expenses that I should anticipate?
thanks in advance; I see these cars can do 300k+ miles but just looking for some reassurance I’m not making an expensive mistake
I could go for say a Peugeot 508sw a bit newer for the same price but theirs just no comparison to the e class.

1922 Ford Model T / no OBD
This seem to be diesel question.
Not sure how much different are UK models v/s US, but the OM651 engine is sold in US as 250 Bluetec.
They have sophisticated DPF and DEF system, where components are extremely expensive and they might need replacement at higher mileage.
The engine block itself is pretty bulletproof and easy to work on.
Only thing that for 4-banger MB went with single row timing chain, that will not last engine life.
More info in diesel section.
