Oh right, I get you. It's just the iPhone connected to the comand unit? Do you know if I can have the same behaviour with Android auto?
Not sure with Android Auto. I only have Apple phones. I’ve never tested it.
To clarify, when I went into Bluetooth settings, it said MBbluetooth - Connected as well as CarPlay box - Connected. Not sure how I did this but it just worked. I never hit ‘forget device’ on mbbluetooth so I guess both just worked and stays connected. I can choose between AUX (actual CarPlay source) or any other audio source of my choice. Everything still works. Hope this helps
I decided to pull the trigger on the new model that I talked about a few posts ago. I got a $10 coupon as well so my total shipped + taxes was $207. Ironically it is going into my C 207. I will report back after install and a few months of use. This will be my second time installing a CarPlay box into a Mercedes NTG so I am more confident this time. I have learned so much from these threads and groups.
Hi, it seems that you guys are more adventurous than my UK counterparts when it comes to upgrading COMMAND to android/carplay.
I recently upgraded my NTG4.5 unit to one of these: https://www.iceboxauto.com/mercedes-...outube-netflix
I originally did have the HK system but replaced all speakers with Morels, which sound much clearer and more dynamic. The install went well, the hardest part was getting the command unit back in with all the new wiring behind.
The issue I have is the sound quality from the android unit, whether in app or carplay is very poor,
The bass is very distorted and the sound lacks clarity. There is such a contrast between the sound of the original command and this new unit. I have tried all the settings - from the AUX in command to those in the android system but cannot get anything I'[m happy with.
Has anyone experienced this and if so is there a solution? I'm minded to return this unit otherwise?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
It is hard to say what is really causing the problem. Since I assume you installed the screen and the speakers at the same time. But many people have report little to no issues with the Android screens so I am guess it could be a speaker problem. Maybe something with the setup of the amp and EQ? Not well versed in this area but I’m sure someone can help. Could possibly be a bad unit. Contact the seller for help as well

Apologies, I should have been clearer - the Morels were installed back in 2018. I have contacted the seller who in turn has contacted the manufacturer. Thanks for your help.
I changed some settings on my Iphone and disabled all eq sound settings - this has improved the sound quality significantly when playing via carplay.
I'm not impressed with the quality of sound when using the android & Carplay phone functions. it's nowhere near as good as the OEM system.
I had no audio on my comand 4.5 (W166, ML350) and tried everything written online to get it working with no success.
i had no fiber optic cable to change to the new harness so I thought my vehicle mit not be compatible. The fix for me was to connect the two GND cables, now sound works.
i am not happy with the sound quality yet, will have to play with the settings.
EDIT: sound quality improved by deactivating loudness in settings, and maximizing volume and music volume.
Has anyone managed to get rid of background noise when making calls? I installed an external mic but the call quality on the receiving end is still nowhere near as clear as factory calls.

Yes.
Continue to use the MB Bluetooth connection for phone calls. After the first few times you manually select MB Bluetooth on the iPhone screen when you make a call it will (mostly) remember your preference.
Use the steering wheel buttons to answer/hang up and it will also automatically switch between the AUX port.

Thanks - I was thinking of resorting to using the MB Bluetooth but wasn't sure if the phone can be connected to MB and Android at the same time.
I'll have to test this out tmrw and see how it works for receiving calls if both are connected at the same time.

IDK if anyone is active in this anymore but I am having trouble installing the head unit because of the cables the cables that connects to the original is too big and i cant put the head unit back any help plz
I had the same problem, I removed the heater control panel from below the head unit and managed to really press the wires down into the recess there. It took a good bit of fettling and force to get the loom to fit and some pressure on the head unit to sit flush.
I nearly gave up at one point, but it can be done, just will take time.
Thank you for responding. You're a lifesaver. I removed the AC controls and cable managed the wires, and put the radio back in and what do you know, it went in.

Hey are you able to provide any feedback on this yet? Easier to install due to size, etc.? I am thinking to pull the trigger on ordering this model for my C207.

Hi, I have a similar system, looks like you need to go through the CarPlay box settings and set up its own audio settings… likely to be the issue… good luck
I just installed roadtop Apple CarPlay on my w204, install went well overall but I noticed that the backrest adjustment button triggers Siri/temporarily pauses music. Wondering if anyone has noticed or experienced this?
Quick update on this, reached out to RoadTop and within minutes they responded with a new MCU version. Loaded it into the CarPlay box, which worked great, now the backrest adjustment button stopped interfering with Apple CarPlay.

I did not remove the glovebox, but I did knock out a hole in the inside to allow me to run the cables from the adapter in the back of the head unit to the CarPlay module in the glovebox. Otherwise, it gets kinda tight trying to squeeze everything behind the HU. It also makes it much easier to access the controller if needed.
Hi all,
Has anyone tried this module? I recently found it, and for cars with optional H/K or B&O it may fix problems with sound quality (since it simulates TV receiver). The only thing is that it costs much more than the roadtop box.

I've had no problems with sound quality with my RoadTop unit. You just need to make sure it is properly grounded.
I also don't use over-the-air radio (i.e., AM, FM, Satellite, etc.). I use iHeartRadio, iTunes, etc. through my phone when I listen to music.

That unit certainly has a different wiring diagram and it appears to eliminate the need to wire to the AUX port. Very interesting.
I now have a RoadTop module (and previously had Joyeauto) but it still seems that the sound quality is lower than via the Bluetooth connection to the Comand. I've removed the "Loudness" setting in the preferences, adjusted some EQ parameters and the overall volume.
So the iPhone sends a digital signal to the CarPlay module, then it is converted to analogue and sent to the Comand via Aux, then the Comand converts the analogue to digital and sends it via fibre optic to the Harman/Kardon amplifier (or processes it internally). Surely there are negative effects somewhere in there
although the subject of sound is purely individual
