Rear dome light stopped working

Hi all, I replaced my rear dome light with LEDs. I took apart the cover and replaced all 3 and tested them before putting it back together. Both map lights worked and the center light was on as my door was open. I put everything back together and tested again map lights work but the rear center dome does not no matter whether doors open or I hit the button from the front console. Tried 3 different bulbs and even the original and nothing works. I checked fuse 17 and it was fine, checked fuse 57 but I did not have one there in my car.

I tested with a tester and looks like there is a negative signal.

Any thoughts?

Silly question but isn’t there a dome light kill button on the console? You sure you did not accidentally press it?

The overhead console in the front correct? I did hit the button to turn it on/off when the door was closed but it also did not do anything. Ordered a used replacement module that I will test later this afternoon if it arrives.

Replaced mine with LED's a while ago. Rear light works fine 60% of the time. It likes to be a bit temperamental, for example if the car has been running, and the doors open, it won't turn on.. But, if the doors are opening from the outside (ie unlocking, then opening) it works.. It is slightly annoying, but not enough to make me tear it apart again..

That being said, make sure your LED is facing the correct way. My finicky light aside, if I were to open the rear housing and flip contact sides of the LED, it would not work at all. I am by no means an electrician, however, if I remember correctly, it has something to do with the LED having a positive and negative side. (Someone please correct me if I am mistaken..)

Yes, most LEDs are polarity dependent. Also, having canbus capability will resolve some of those power fluctuation issues with current leakage.

I noticed there is a separate off button for turning the dome lights off to not turn on when the doors open. well I connected my rear dome light and hit that off button and turned it back on and looks like that did it kind of like a reset. all is working now!

Yep, inserted an Osram LED bulb and sometimes it wont turn on or randomly turns off. Turning off and back on the ‘door switch’ makes it work again. Its a shame, if anyones got a fix that isnt canbus, let us know!
