I am looking at a 2010 E 550 with 40K miles. It's listed at $18,600 right now. It's not at a Mercedes dealer. I test drove it and it rides and runs great and everything appears to work correctly. There is one problem. It was damaged by someone at the dealer. I'm waiting to hear what they will do about it, but what do you all think?
Also I have read a lot here about what to expect from this car, but are there any last minute tips or things I should look at closer?
Grille is easy to replace and lot of owners change them to different styles (not necessary upgrade IMHO)
You can move licence plate bracket up and cover the dent on front panel.
Walk into the dealership with $2-3000 less cash than they are asking and give them 5 minutes to consider
I thought 18K was too high as well. It was a P2 car though.
Just found out someone bought the car for asking price. Kind of crazy if you ask me. The car was really clean though.

^ no doubt you are correct. This is why people have a difficult time selling a car themselves as a private party. People are looking to finance. Banks do not care to finance cars purchased through a private party.
KBB shows a 9 year-old, 2010 E550 with P2 and just 40,000 miles in Fair Condition (the ding places it there automatically) is worth an average trade in of $10,120 ($9,200-$10,800). I wouldn't pay more than $12K

Exactly. And when they call to tell you the deal fell through and it’s still available you can tell them $12K
I can't see a bank financing this car at $18K, either.
Local credit unions around Chicago will finance a car at a higher rate if you are credit worthy enough.
Friend got a loan through one of the unions for a 15 year old car, with 140k miles, 8k purchase at 8.99%. The credit union even offered $600 Gap insurance and/or $1500 "extended warranty".......
