Looking for a new sunshade

Hi all ...

I’m looking for a new sunshade for my 2014 e350 sedan. Looking for a silver folding one ... which ones do you have, love and why?

Thanks!

Once you buy one of these you will NEVER buy anything else... "The Shade" from Dashdesigns.com, about $30, shipped.

Seriously, it mounts on the passenger side A-Pillar, where it's always available within reach without fiddling in the rear seat foot well. (It is removable when desired.) It stays clean because it's not rubbing against the greasy seat rails on the floor, or trampled by rear seat dwellers. Made of silver, it covers without gaps and repels sunlight. And it always fits with a single motion. (no origami folding/unfolding).

I got this one for my 2014 E350, because its a custom fit.

It is the sturdiest car shade I've ever had. Down side is that it doesn't fold into a tiny space.

I have this for my E550 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Premium-Fol...6zv4OBgrx6kWgQ

It is sturdy (might be same/similar to the previous post) and fits well.

If considering OEM, part # is Q6670034: https://www.mbdirectparts.com/oem-pa...coupe-q6670048

Covercraft is what I chose. Seems to be the same as the OEM manufacturer. Very good quality, but it is an accordion style sunshade.

Just something to consider... "The Shade" deploys (and stores) in less than 5 seconds.

All the others take more than 20 seconds to find, unfold, set in the windshield and hold in place with the overhead folding sun visors. Been there, done that, remember it all. Just sayin'...

I use these, I don't love or hate them. They were less than $10, does the job.

It stays stuck on the passenger side, when stored away? Personally don’t like the giant air filter look. Thick enough to block out all light? Looks paper thin from the pics.

I'll answer your question two ways... The assembly stores on the Passenger A-Pillar, BUT it clips in place and is easily removable whenever desired. In use on the windshield, it snaps closed when stored, so it stays in place until you unsnap it to pull it across. I've never had one deploy accidentally on four different cars. And it can be deployed in front of the mirror (see the pic above on my E350).

It is as effective as any other design. Comes in different lengths so order the longest (27" IIRC) It's available in several color designs that disguises the air filter look. See the website for decorative options. Not important to me, I get the reflective silver.

You can mount it much closer to the A-Pillars than shown in this video. When stored, it does NOT obstruct your view out the right-side windshield (1:53 in video). As for flimsiness, I have one of these installed on my 2001 C320, since new (18 years now). It's that durable.

I've had several strangers ask me how much Mercedes-Benz charges for that wiz-bang shade. They're pleased to hear they can order it online for any car.

Watch carefully how fast it deploys and clips to the driver side (beginning and end of video). Don't blink...

I want a custom sized one for mine, but given the location of my dash cam (more like windshield cam) it looks like it wouldn't work... so I'm considering "The Shade" that DFWDude posted... BUT... it looks like it leaves a HUGE amount uncovered... so I dunno. *Grumbles* Maybe I'll get the W212 specific one and just cut out a hole.

It leaves nothing uncovered. Considering the problems with faded wood trim, I can assure you I watch this like a hawk. This will cover all the real estate needed. And with your windshield cam, you have the flexibility to wrap it around the back of the cam or in front.

BTW, I do NOT work for www.dashdesigns.com

Well, the video above shows quite a bit uncovered. On the thumbnail you can even see all the way through the back window. That's quite a bit. Also, on your pic, there's what looks like a good 3-4 inches of the dash that's uncovered.

Well true, it doesn't cover the rounded center (bottom) of the dash at the windshield. But I don't care about that, as I am more concerned with shading the wood trim, the steering wheel, and cooling the interior in these hot Texas Summers.

I've installed mine so that I can drape it under and forward of the rear view mirror (where the mirror stalk is). That way it sits straight across the top. In that position you cannot see through the car.

Further, I can look up and see only small bits of the added brow-tinting at the pillars. Keep in mind the roof is rounded at the windshield.

The best advantage of this shade is that positioned where it is, you have no excuse for not using it, compared with deciding whether to fiddle around in the back seat footwell or not... on those short stops at convenience stores. It's always there, clean, and just an arm's length away.

CA heat here is about as bad if not as bad as Texas heat. We just, fortunately, have little to no humidity. (But also little to no rain in SoCal.) So I want all of the coverage that I can get for a sunshade, both for interior protection and for sweating my *** off when I get in. I'll probably do my idea of the $60 custom one and cut out space for my camera. The fold out one is, indeed, friggin' sweet though.
