Warranty almost up... please help...

I have a 2010 E350 with approx 68k miles. I am getting a ticking/knocking noise is how I can beat explain it after I start it up and the rpm's kick down. My ext Warranty is very close to being up and I just got the call back from the dealer that they are not finding a problem and are not hearing the noise.

Is it the same sound as in these videos?

I have it coming from the passenger side cylinder closest to the front of the car and it only happens at idle. From what I've deduced, it's an oiling issue with one of the lifters there, but I don't know what the fix is short of an engine/head teardown. I came across numerous reports but no resolution. The good news is I also didn't see a report of any failures caused by this, though I have to assume it'll be an issue at some point.

Regardless, when you bring it to the dealer, ask to talk to a mechanic. Have him stand next to you, put your ear under the hood and say "that noise". A number of times I've brought my car into the shop for some noise or another and they come back and say they can't find it. Stand with them in front of the open hood, and bingo: "oh that noise". Most are not bad guys, they're probably just used to listening for far more egregious sounds.

Edit: this was a good resource on the sound from the videos:

See if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. The purge valve on our engines makes a loud tick too, but is "normal"

Yes it sounds very similar to that and also sounds like it's louder on the passenger side as well. The dealer said that they would like me to come in and pinpoint the sound for them. Which I will be doing on Monday

Ok so the dealership is saying that it's "most likely the carbon build up that they found and that a "Pressurized Fuel System Cleaning" and me doing an Additive treatment for 4-5 tanks of gas after that they do that "should clear it up". Which they are quoting me $655 to do. And of course they found my motor mounts and trans mount are worn and need to be replaced... which is another $1300. Also they are saying that the initial diagnostic is extra even ifI get the work done there...? Does this all sound legit?

Sorry I didn't respond earlier! Somehow I missed your reply. I was just checking in to see what the outcome was.

According to a couple of sources I found on Google it's possible the knock is because of the carbon buildup, but I have to admit, I don't completely understand why. It has, however, inspired me to run Seafoam through a vacuum hose tomorrow. It worked well on the car I had before last so I'm fairly convinced that while it may not fix the issue, it'll be a good thing to do anyway. I'll report back on how it goes.

If you haven't already acted, I would see how confident they are that carbon buildup is the culprit. Did they run a borescope down the spark plug hole and observe excessive carbon buildup in that cylinder, or is it an assertion based on what they heard? If they laid their eyes on it, I'd say give the cleaning a try. Getting a second or third opinion at another dealer or indy would be an excellent idea, regardless.

Are they covering the mount replacement under your extended warranty?

If I understand latest update, the stealer wants to milk the warranty for $2000 and still pulls diagnostic cost in cash from the owner?
First get the diagnosis in writing as "most likely" is not going to cut if they screw up.
I would have longer talk with SA or manager.

Not clear why you say the dealer is milking the warranty. They are totally doing him a favor if they replace the mounts under warranty.

Don't understand your logic. "Doing a favor" cost money. Taking money for jobs that are not needed is consider milking.

Highly unlikely that it doesn't need mounts at 70K
