Blind spot assist beeping a lot - false warnings
Hi, all,
In general, I like the blind spot assist in my 2014 E350. However, I've identified two scenarios where it beeps when it probably should not be...
1. On a 6 lane highway, when I start changing from the right-most lane to the middle lane (using my turn signal), it will start beeping as soon as I enter the middle lane. Yes, there is a car in the left-most lane, but beeping as soon as I start entering the middle lane?? I think the same happens changing right lanes but am not 100% sure.
2. When there are quite a few cars around and we're moving, it will beep, then immediately beep again, then immediately beep again even when there is no erratic driving or lane changes going on around me.
Is this a sensor issue or a system firmware update issue (or something else)?
Thanks for your help.

These are not random beeps without using your turn indicator? Or, in every case you are signaling?

It should not beep unless you turn your blinker on?
Unless it is front radar that detects possible collision
The system is oversensitive and I hear the beeps very often.
But better 1000 beeps too many, than 1 not enough.

Yeah, it should only warn when signaling. Making a left turn in a multi-lane turn intersection is annoying when in the right-most lane. You need it diagnosed as your hand held scan tool is worthless.

Obviously the blind spot function beeps when blinker is on and someone is in the spot on that side but it seems the system uses the blind spot sensors also for collision monitoring in the sides.
The false alarms were the beeps with the red triangle flashing in the cluster, not the red triangles in the mirrors.

For issue number 1, I have the same problem but usually the other car is closer. I'll merge from lane three into lane two, and there will be a car in lane one. That type of thing.
For issue number 2, my "warning" comes on FAR too often when I'm in a drive through. (Starbucks seems to be the worst.) Stationary, no blinker, beeeeeeeep. Shut up you daft ****ing car! One of my very few complaints about the car.

Do you have Parktronic? That may be the cause of your beeps in close proximity to cars, buildings, pick-up window, baristas, etc

Issue 2 is probably what KEY08 said, your Parktronic, which also sees little bit to sides and not just directly in front. When you drive very close to a wall, like you do at drive thru, you can get alarm from the Parktronic just as it supposed to work. My Parktronic also gives warning if I'm too close to a wall. It also sees some of those concrete parking stall stoppers, which is good so I can keep my front from getting on them.
Next time at Starbucks leave your car 1/2 ft further from the wall and see what happens.
