Check your belt also if it hasn't been replaced in a while as long as you are in there.

You have to take off one of the idler pulleys in order to replace the thermostat. OEM was Wahler. It's pretty much the exact same one except on the Wahler one, there's a spot where there'd be the Mercedes star and that's ground down. So get the tensioner, two idler pulleys and the belt if you're also doing the thermostat. It's very common for those to go, I've done them in both cars.

Mercedes stuff, no question. It's not going to have any chemical incompatibilities, and the price isn't any worse than whatever's at AutoZone.

I'm just using the Zerex G-05. Full strength and I just dilute it with distilled water. The premixed stuff is about twice as much as the full strength. I figured it's probably fine as MB calls for 150k/15 years on the coolant. Doesn't really do air bubbles, fill it up and it's pretty much full.

Mercedes stuff isn't diluted, and runs about $20 a gallon near me. I probably wouldn't hesitate to use Zerex G-05 if needed.
I agree with cetialpha5, I've found I can pretty much just fill it up, throw the jug in the car, and refill when needed. It'll let you know if the level gets too low. In addition, I check on it at the end of each trip out. It doesn't generally need a lot added.
