W212 - Switching from 18" to 19" RIMS

Hello guys, this is my first time posting.

I've been going around w212 forums for a while now doing research. However, I did not find the answer I'm looking for.

I own a 2016 E350 4-matic, American specs, that has been involved in an accident and repaired. The car had originally 18" non-staggered rims (I believe, coz that's what it says on the driver's door), and after repair, the rims were exchanged for aftermarket 18" staggered rims. Now I've been suffering with these aftermarket rims coz they would often become misbalanced due to their weak composition. Hence, I decided to go with OEM rims and installed 19" E63, 10 spoke AMG rims, since my car have been equipped with an aftermarket E63 body kit. Note that when I had the 18" rims installed, they used to rub with the front mudguard when making big turns(My front bumper is missing the brackets). Now that I have the 19" rims installed, they are rubbing even more with the front mudguard when making turns, but they don't rub with the fenders and the rear mud guard. I have 255/35/r19 96Y tires installed in front and 285/30/r19 98Y for the back. While they do poke out and bulge a bit, I don't mind it. However, when I had the 18" aftermarket rims, If I would be driving at 140km/hr, my true speed would be 139km/hr. But now after I installed the 19" rims, If I would be driving 140 km/hr, my true speed would be 141 km/hr. I have done some research about tire size, and found that it would be ideal to install 245/35/r19 for fronts and keep the back the same; this would make both tires revolve at almost exactly the same rate; and I'm planning to go to my local garage to reprogram the car that it has been equipped with 19" rims now instead of the 18" (I don't know if this is possible tho); and I'm also planning to take the car to a body shop to resolve the rubbing issue.

However, this is not my main concern. My main concern is, since I have 19" rims now, I'm worried that this might be too much on my wheel bearings for the long run. Also, my second concern is that it would be bad for my power steering for the long run too, or any other components in the car. Now the store that I bought the rims from agreed to exchange the OEM 19" rims for OEM 18" not-for-e63 rims. However, I like the 19" rims much more, but I'm worried it would cause problems for my car.

Can somebody please give me a detailed answer whether the 19" rims would cause problems for my car in both the short and long run, or it wouldn't affect the car or any components? Much appreciated.
P.S: Everything in my car is stock except the body kit.

2014 E550-sold 😩

I have those exact OEM E63 10 spoke 19” wheels on my E550 4M. 245/35-19 and 285/30-19. Perfect for the 4M. 19” wheels in general may be a little harder on suspension components, but not enough to be concerned with.

I believe that E550 has bigger fenders, correct me if I'm wrong.

But are you saying that the 19" rims won't cause any problems on the long runs?
Thanks for reply

P.S: Do your 245/35/r19 tires rub with the mudguards or no issues? Thanks

Only the E63 has the wider fender in the front only. E550 is identical to the E350.
there is no rubbing with this setup.

The rolling difference between the front (245/35) and rear (285/30) is .1%, so well within the tolerance of the newer 4M specs.

By the way, did you do anything about the speedometer difference in speed? My local garage seemed like he didn't know that speed changes when switching to larger rims. Have you done any programming after mounting the 19" rims, and if you did, what did you do; or are you just living with the difference?

Thanks

Sorry, I know I'm asking you a lot of questions, but for your setup, what is your tire air pressure (PSI) for front and back tires? Is it the same for both front and back?

No problem. The circumference with the 19” wheels and low sidewall tires is nearly identical to the stock 18” wheel and taller tire, so the Speedo difference is minimal. I wouldn’t worry about it. I am running the Potenza S-04 pole position tire. 39 psi rear and 37 psi front. Don’t go too low on tire pressures if you have Poor roads. Low profile tires are prone to cause wheel damage on potholes
