Fan cooling operation kicks in when car is off
My car is a 2009 E 250 CDI (w212) and I would appreciate your help/comments on the following:
Occasionally (once every few days) after I park my car and is off, 45 minutes more or less, the fan kicks in and works for 10-60 seconds, as if the car’s engine needs cooling. I checked the temperature a few times while this was happening and it was ok. Also a few times, it started when I unlock the car so I get in to drive it, it could not be just a coincidence.
Let me make it clear that I do not refer to this happening when the engine is hot and running and I turn it off.
My mechanic is puzzled, as no msgs are given and there is no lead to follow.
Any comments will be much appreciated.
Update August 2020:
Occasionally the fan starts when I open the door or unlock the car. Has anyone else had this too? is it normal?
Now, fan runs for 30-40 minutes, an hour after I switch off the car (when it happens).
Thanks.

I frequently find my 2011 E350 with a fan running noise well after shut off. Dealer couldn't find a fault. It turned out to be the Climate Control fan running to dry out the system which is normal.
Page 136 & 145 in the owners manual:
"Residual heat function may be activated automatically an hour after the key is removed . The vehicle is then ventilated for 30 minutes to dry the air-conditioning system."

Phillip,
Is the fan speed at this event a 100% speed, or much less than a 100% speed ?
Thanks
