Brake lines on a Lincoln willed to my son from his great uncle rotted from the inside out due to corrosion. He blew the lines while driving it! Cost $1,000 to replace the lines. I would not go years without changing fluids

True but where does it abosorb it? sealed system.
Cap would be only place (unless you have leak points) so not like we are talking large amounts.
I think where you live would matter more.

And what level of water is dangerous?

All other manufactures using the same brakefluid for most part and do not have you chage fluid every other year...heck soem do nto mention brake fluid at all.

I wonder if MB has some other reason for this besides lightening my wallet

Yeah, in Chicago.
Now in Las Vegas we fight low humidity all we can. The static electricity can shock me once when I touch the faucet and 2nd when I touch water.
Living in dry climates I don't hesitate to keep the brake fluid for 5 years. But whenever I replace brake pads, I replace fluid in reservoir and bleed the calipers outside.

I am contacting the vendors to get some quotes on service packs. Today I received this coupon through regular mail from the dealership where I've scheduled service. It states $150 off for a winter service of $300 or more. What is a Winter service? Does any service performed in winter months qualify as "winter service"? At another part of the coupon it states $150 savings on any service of $300 or more. I guess that clears it.
But an asterix in the bottom states (among other points)... "Only valid for vehicles without Mercedes -Benz service in the past 13 months". WTH...?
As I understand if a car has service performed by MB personnel in the last 13 months, they won't honor this coupon...??? Why would they even add such an exclusion?

They want to lure owners who DIY or save money with indies.
If you service your car at dealer every year, you are already on the hook.

Only those who have NOT had service within the past 15 months? Well, that answers why I haven’t received my coupon. I’m not happy with the genius marketing company that thought this was a smart idea.

Peaked my interest so I googled a bit and found this on a Brit site: https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/.../#post-2654061

In regards to which numbers come up on your dash when service is due i.e 'B5' , 'A3'. I have a list here of what those bits mean so it makes it easier for me to price up services, hopefully this can help Mercedes owners too!

--- BF = brake fluid. ATF = gearbox oil. Sunroof clean and lubricate obviously only applicable if you have one!
A/B ‘0’ – Sunroof clean and lubricate, sometimes spark plugs if petrol ( it threw me once on an ML63!)
A/B’1’ - BF
A/B ‘2’ – BF + sunroof
A/B ‘3’ – Air + Fuel (diesel) - Petrol = Air + Plugs
A/B ‘4’ – Air + Fuel + sunroof (diesel) – Petrol = Air+Plugs+Roof
A/B ‘5’ – Air + Fuel + BF - Petrol Air+Plugs+BF
A/B ‘6’ – Air + Fuel + BF + sunroof - Petrol Air+Plugs+BF+sunroof
A/B ‘7’ – ATF
A/B ‘8’ – ATF + Sunroof
A/B ‘9’ – ATF + BF
A/B ‘G’ – BF+Air+Fuel+Sunroof+ATF -Petrol Air+Plugs+BF+sunroof+ ATF

It's a Mercedes, so B9 service means that it'll cost $9 Billions...

The service cost for three services is $1750 (two for $1250). Not exactly a killer deal. This is from the Louisville MB. Is this the current rate for most of you guys?

Thr dealership where I’m planning to service quoted me around $650-700 for this B9 service. Didn’t include transfer case flush (I guess due to less miles).
I’m thinking I may not gain that much by going for the triple service package this time.
Any opinions?

If you can get a B service, plus brake flush plus new plugs for $650 to $700 then go for it. Most dealers charge about $500 for just B service and brake flush. Plugs are usually another $500 or more. (quotes I've gotten on the west cost are anywhere from $1000 to $1700 for the 6th year B service, brake flush and plugs).

You don't need transmission flush till the 7th year. That service is likely another $300 to $600. So add that to the A service also needed (roughly $250) is potentially another $550 to $850
For the 8th year you'll need a B service with Brake flush, which again, goes for about $500.

So on the west coast, the 6, 7, 8th year services typically add up to between $2000 to $3000 making the pre paid packages a decent deal.

They used to sell the packages at $999 for 3 services, then it went up to $1400, seems like they've raised prices again.

Yes, if you do your own oil changes etc. with all documentations you should be fine but if something goes wrong it is better if the dealer service did all of it.

But, after warranty you do not need to take it to the dealer nor do you need to document the service b9 mercedes other than to yourself.

My recommendation is to change engine oil every 5000 miles if you plan to keep your car. I did this between dealer oil services at every 10000 miles anyway.

My car has over 170000 miles on it and I have not flushed engine cooling system yet nor have I flushed the brake fluid either. Reason is I drive 85% highway and my engine life is only about 1/3 of the city driving mileage. I am getting to flushing them both soon though.
Hi, My C350 CDi (2011) needs a B9 service and i've been quoted £550 which seems expensive. The car has covered 55K miles and had a major service including gbf at 47K miles. The last service was about a year ago (51k miles) Does this sound about right?
