We have a 2014 E350 wagon. Today, a few things on the car stoped working, and surely they're related:
1) The two inner tail lights that go on the tailgate don't power up (same for the built in reverse lights), however the outer lights on the body of the car do power up. This car has the LED intelligent package, if that's relevant.
2) The handsfree power liftgate won't activate via a foot kick under the bumper
3) When the car is locked, the tailgate latch won't open the tailgate, however if the car is unlocked first, the tailgate latch will open the tailgate and it will raise under its own power. It sounds like the KEYLESS GO in the back is affected.
4) The tailgate will close when the power liftgate button is pressed, but it doesn't latch at the bottom. It's actually loose and you can wiggle it.
I believe that the rear SAM controls all this. This all sounds like more than just a blown fuse, though. Is it likely that the entire rear SAM module needs to be replaced? I appreciate any insight or ideas you all have.
Assuming you checked rear SAM connections for obvious, have you considered checking harness (7 in illustration, access instructions in attachment) and tailgate wiring.

I did a pretty elemental test by checking for continuity between the right backup lamp (which is in the inner tail lamp unit) and the rear SAM, to see if this is a wiring issue (pin 3 on the tail lamp connector and pin 4 on the SAM's 6HD connector)--there is continuity. So given that both tail lights stopped working at the same time and a host of other codes that trace back to the rear SAM, it looks like the I have a failed rear SAM unit. From eBay I've sourced another rear SAM that should get here in a week. So once that's installed and coded to the car, hopefully that will do it.
So for posterity, it was indeed the rear SAM (or rather the module that plugs into the back of the fuse holder). No indications of moisture in the compartment. Failure at 55k miles.
