Just out of the blue - Gas Flap Will Not Latch

Any one else had this? And how to fix?

the press to release / press to latch function of the gas flap no longer works ... it will not stay closed tight. Will not press to latch.

On the inside, tHe little knob that presses in to stay depressed & sting forth when pressed - seems to work.

The pin that engages from the side to lock the gas flap when the doors are locked works fine. Will lock the flap if I hold the flap shut and lock the doors at same time.

But then when I Li lock the doors the gas flap goes ajar.

Happens to me all the time just re position the cord that holds the gas cap to the gas cap door.

Yes, that's what you need to do. It's a weird design "flaw," but you need to reposition the cord by twisting it to a different position. I can't remember where it should be, but you'll figure it out by trial and error.

Thanks guys ...
After a bit of fiddling around, I found the right positioning of the gas cap when closed tight - so the cord and flap were not stressed.
I do recall a few weeks ago ... fumbling with the cap when twisting it closed and I must have gotten it out of proper alignment.
All better now.
I also just now realized the flap does not really latch when closed ... it only sits flush to body panel - until it is locked with the doors.

Nice isn't it? It's actually a locking gas cap cover. It's just that it's unlocked when the doors are unlocked and locked when they're locked. So no need to lock and unlock it.

I was going to be a smartass and say you must have the AirBrakeMatic package, but I controlled my urges.

I was going to mention that it really doesn't lock if the car car doors are not locked. But ya figured it out all on your own!

A related issue...

On cars with Keyless-Go, one needs to stay away from the door handles while refuelling the car. Touch a handle, and the car locks, which prevents the gas flap from being closed. It's a little annoying to unlock the doors to free the gas flap so it can be pressed home.
