Usually, when I need to close the trunk lid, I am standing there after placing something in the trunk and use the buttons in the lid (or do the kick motion under the bumper).
For those with Keyless-Go, you tend to have the remote in your pocket and don't remove it to operate any buttons.
Otherwise, I can always close the trunk "remotely" from the driver's seat by pushing in the door button. (ie., no need to "program it.")
I've never had a need to close the trunk while away from the car.

Come to think of it - me either.
I do have Keyless-Go, but I only use the trunk features of it. I prefer to turn a key, so I threw the button in the glove box. And since I've got the keys out already, I unlock the car with the remote. How else am I going to take advantage of locator lighting and the puddle lamps if they don't come on till I am already standing there grabbing the handle?

What konigstiger posted applies to wagons. I played on my 2014 sedan and remote will not close the trunk.
Also car has some safety (?) feature that after opening with leg swing, might close the trunk on its own. Got hit in the head once, so now I am careful.
Than I am fro old school. All those gadgets usually don't have long life and since I plan to keep my car till self-driving models hit the market, I don't mind to give the trunk hand push, keeping the electric closer for showing off.
I am annoyed with closer anyway. The motor takes trunk space and I can't slide my cooler in becouse of that.

But I like closing it from the driver's seat better, anyways. Makes jaws drop in the Marketstreet parking lot.
